This is new - Schiff suggests a one-week period for depositions and a “limited” time for witnesses, pushing back on concerns of “endless” delays. He said the Chief Justice can deal with any disputes. “This can be done very quickly.” He calls it a “reasonable accommodation”

But it seems to me that Adam Schiff wouldn't be appealing to the Chief Justice if he didn't think there was a legal avenue to pursue through him.

Something else I seem to remember: when Schiff was on Rachel's program the other night, she asked him if the Dems would go to Roberts if the GOP successfully blocked witness testimony. He shot her a look of "don't go there" and said that he couldn't answer that question, that he didn't want to disclose the Dem's strategy. It indicated to me that that WAS the Dem's strategy.

That said that was what happened during the Johnson impeachment and it takes a 2/3 vote to overrule the Chief Justice. But the Chief Justice would have final say on who would be permitted to be a witness and one of the criteria would be relevance to the current case. But Roberts is a pretty political justice so no slam dunk.

5. No, the Senate has the last word. 51 votes can overrule anything that Roberts does.

Besides, Roberts has shown no indication that he would do that anyway. Remember, it was his vote that put Citizens United over the top. He is not our ally.
