Im sorry. Im sorry I booed her. I shouldnt have done that. That was wrong and she didnt deserve it. I apologize to somebody whos always been such an inspiration... I apologize to Hillary - someone whos fought so hard all these years so women like me could be where I am now...
THOSE are true apologies. And Tlaib would have shown herself to be a courageous and very adult leader of all Democrats, not just a single faction. She would have been lauded, and embraced, a genuinely sympathetic character. But unfortunately she revealed herself as just another mean girl, whod kick somebody else when shes down.
An I guess I got carried away because she was such a schmuck is no apology at all. A sincere apology includes an acknowledgment of wrongdoing on ones own part. There was nothing like that in her statement. Which, sadly enough, tells me theres no genuine contrition here.
Id have welcomed a genuine, sincere, legitimate apology from Tlaib - if shed actually offered one.

lapfog_1
(31,904 posts)Hillary can say whatever she wants.
Bernie needs to instruct his surrogates to restrain themselves because he is still running for something and will need every possible vote to win it.
Or you can support Tlaib and what she did. If you do, and your candidate wins the nomination... you will have purified the party so that only far far left people feel welcome. Good luck winning the general with that strategy.
Tlaib was acting on behalf of Sanders.
The moderator of the panel EVEN told the audience (who are not surrogates of the candidate) to not "boo" Hillary... and Tlaib, instead of trying to add to that by saying "yes, we shouldn't react to Hilary's comment" OR just shutting the fuck up... had to chime in with her "Yeah, Let's all boo the last Presidential candidate and first WOMAN candidate of a major party".
At the very least it showed that Tlaib has a lack of decorum and judgment... and by extension, shows Bernie is a bad light for picking her (one in a series of bad judgment calls in who he surrounds himself with).

With all due respect, facts are facts. When he sat out, pouting, FOR WEEKS, from the time she clinched the nomination at the end of the June primaries til nomination night at the convention later in the summer. Half the summer went by before he got up off his ass to go through the motions of campaigning for her.
Which is not what she did, at the end of the 2008 primary season when Obama clinched, that June. She shifted gears immediately and got with the program on HIS behalf and went out campaigning for him. With that summers convention still weeks away.
And heck, she gave over part of her nomination acceptance speech to salute Bernie and graciously extend an olive branch to his followers - when, frankly, it was HER night, that shed earned in spite of him.
I will NEVER forget that convention - where even Bernie fan Sarah Silverman, who had already acknowledged Hillarys primary victory, scolded Bernie bros in the audience who were booing Hillary, AT THE CONVENTION, okay? Silverman yelled at them to grow up and get over it.
I will also never forget when Hillary accepted her nomination, and so graciously acknowledged Bernie, there was a camera up in the seats where Bernie was sitting. And she didnt have to do that. But she DID. He just sat there like a sore loser. Youd have thought he would have at least waved in acknowledgment - or maybe just cracked a small smile! He didnt. No wave. No nod toward her on HER big night which she was generously sharing with him. No nothing. Sat there in a huff and scowled with a look of okay, now entertain me. Im waiting on his face.
He could have been the Portrait of Good Sportsmanship, and gotten behind her after she clinched the nomination weeks earlier, and stumped for her to help unify the party. He could have shown REAL leadership. Unfortunately, no. All those early weeks wherein he was uniquely positioned to bring the two sides back together and he willfully squandered every minute of that.
And I waited. And waited. And waited for some signs of good sportsmanship. And, frankly, Im STILL waiting.
And I wont forget.
Ive already taken the Indivisible Pledge, to vote for the nominee whoever he/she is. Vote blue no matter who. And I will. Ive posted this promise here, several times already. Which means yes, I WILL vote for Bernie - if I have to. Vote blue, no matter who. And even though his blue is only borrowed.

(53,214 posts)It was embarrassing to watch him behave like such a bitter loser. My opinion of Sanders went down considerably that night.

(90,017 posts)Where any good sport and leader interested in restoring party unity would be. She was down on the floor, in the New York delegation, because she was still a Senator from New York. And she had the microphone and the center spot when it came time during the state-by-state proclamations. And she was the one to announce in a loud, clear voice, on behalf of her states delegation, that New York cast all its votes for the next President of the United States, Barack Obama!
It was the ultimate salute from a former foe-turned-strong-ally. And I remember the commentators in the network coverage that night pointed that out and made quite a lot of it.

(53,214 posts)for the most part back then. It got much too nasty for me. I finally just came to DU for breaking news and GD until the primaries were over. The few times I wandered into the primaries forum, I seriously regretted it. Some of my old DU friends left and never came back, but we are still friends on Facebook. I think it was the most divisive I've seen Democratic Underground.
So far, knock on wood, the primaries forum is much more civil. Also I think we have better candidates than in 2016.

I'm not a particular fan of Sanders either. He's a Democrat only when he runs for president. IMO, he's as much of an opportunist as Trump. He was never going to be the nominee in 2016, yet he did his best to trash Hillary at every turn.
Frankly, of the top tier of candidates, I'm not inspired by any of them. I'll vote for the nominee, as I have done in the past. That doesn't mean I have to like him or her.
