Still ongoing, quietly?
"This explosive, nearly forgotten 5/2/18 NYT story is key to Trumps full implosion in the months ahead.
This is a separate Trump/Giuliani Ukraine extortion/bribery plot, but much bigger. Mueller handed this off. Its part of a HUGE ongoing investigation."

(24,286 posts)I suspect more criminal behaviour will be exposed, compelling yet another Trump Impeachment Investigation. Send to the Senate 9/15/2020.
If Republicans want to leave it to the voters, than the voters need to see more evidence of Trump crimes with Republican duplicity in letting him skate.

(10,119 posts)(for example - projected paraphrase statement) "We cannot acknowledge the existence of or comment on an ongoing criminal investigation"
It's a great way to cover up bad stuff.
You can bet that is exactly what Barr will do.
He'll start an investigation.
He won't reveal what is going on or who is handling it
He'll take whatever the FBI hands off to review it ... only to let it die.
They can leak their brains out.
With a corrupt AG, how can it proceed to a meaningful place?
And remember, this AG maintains this President cannot be charged with a crime while he is in office.

(628 posts)Are not so easily closed even by someone who believes, like our current AG, that if the president does it & he identifies as a republican, it cannot be illegal.
It is the policy of the DOJ to not comment on existing investigations, too.
On a different investigative front, it is very troubling that SDNY is asserting what looks like Rudy & the president's "privacy interests" and "attorney client" interests in the Parnas-Furman prosecution

(10,119 posts)where is the evidence and transcripts form Mueller's efforts?
Barr blocked them.
What stops Barr from switching out a prosecutor on a troublesome case to install someone willing to do his bidding? Nothing.
What stops Barr from suspending his prosecutors effort in a Grand Jury while they decide to look for more evidence or examine new evidence or divert their efforts to something Barr deems "more important" (and delay the proceeding almost indefinitely)
Barr has already defied a court order. Trump can too. What are you going to do, impeach them?

(7,402 posts)The temporary replacement is someone working for Barr. No reasons given but it sure looks like an attempt to deep six this investigation.

(49,933 posts)KIEV, Ukraine In the United States, Paul J. Manafort is facing prosecution on charges of money laundering and financial fraud stemming from his decade of work for a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine.
But in Ukraine, where officials are wary of offending President Trump, four meandering cases that involve Mr. Manafort, Mr. Trumps former campaign chairman, have been effectively frozen by Ukraines chief prosecutor.
The cases are just too sensitive for a government deeply reliant on United States financial and military aid, and keenly aware of Mr. Trumps distaste for the investigation by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, into possible collusion between Russia and his campaign, some lawmakers say.
The decision to halt the investigations by an anticorruption prosecutor was handed down at a delicate moment for Ukraine, as the Trump administration was finalizing plans to sell the country sophisticated anti-tank missiles, called Javelins.

(14,113 posts).... is working in the background to quietly shutdown any DOJ cases in any fed court against team djt.
SDNY was about to close flynn's case with six months in jail. Now billy barr has that worked down to zero jail time and just probation.
If djt's co-conspirators can be kept happy (no jail time) they are far less likely to make a stink about the criminal actions perpetrated by team djt.
