How did Mary Engelbreit get so woke? St. Louis artist known for cute drawings isn't holding back

“Now I’m focused on how many senators are willing to sell their souls to cover up for this moron,” she says during a recent visit. If there’s any doubt about who she’s referring to, a scroll through her Instagram feed makes the subject of her ire crystal clear.

This is WAY more than Democrat/Republican,” she wrote in response to a follower upset by one of her recent posts. “This is moral/immoral. You can be a Republican and not support Trump. But if you do support him, you are supporting a white supremacist, uneducated, lying, grifting, racist, narcissistic, evil sexual predator, and all of your ‘Can’t we all just love one another?' is meaningless and insulting to all the people Trump seeks to disenfranchise.”

A lot of it is kind of subtle. Which is good, because sometimes that is what is needed to reach the "not-woke."

I don't know anything about her other than what she does, but I do follow Susan Branch (similar style of work and similar followers) and she has been quite vocal about her disgust of the Dump and the GOP.

Check out her twitter feed or blog sometime.

I have always loved Mary Engelbreit. I subscribed to her magazine as long as it was published and have several of her books. I have always loved her whimsical art. I am elated I have another reason to love her. Thank You, Mary Engelbreit.

“This is way more then Democrat/Republican. This is moral/immoral”. Right on! I’m so sick of hearing the pundits go on about partisan politics and voting on party lines. NO! This is about right vs. wrong; it’s that simple. She gets it.

that her "woke" art and opinions are in no way incompatible with her image as "sweet" - they go together. A truly "sweet" person will be sweet across artificial lines of division. If you are "sweet" only to members of your own tribe, or "sweet" only if you don't make waves, you are not sweet at all -you are just a phony. Mary Engelbreit is the real deal.

I see no reason to be surprised that she has progressive beliefs. Why wouldn't she? I am more surprised when artists turn out to be mean.

I don't think the OP made the headline, BTW.
