General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDemocrats need to come up with some conspiracy theories of our own.
Conspiracy theories are part of what drives the GOP and the conservative rhetoric. They live by them. They swear by them. And time and time again we prove that they're bullshit. Doesn't matter what the conspiracy theory is, they still hang on to them years and years later.
Take Seth Rich for instance. The theory that Seth Rich, a DNC staffer in Washington DC, who was a victim of gun violence, was a political hit job that the DNC used to cover up crimes. But what crimes? Nobody who believes this crap will be able to tell you. The fact of the matter is that Seth Rich was such a pure, unfiltered steaming load of grade A bullshit, that by the time it was spread around, deconstructed and analyzed, that people still believed it. This theory was such grade A bullshit that Fox News was forced to apologize for it. And they apologize for nothing. Even worse, like all bad things, it originated from Russian propaganda.
Or take Pizzagate for instance. The theory that Hillary Clinton and John Podesta ran a child sex trafficking ring under the basement of the Comet Ping Pong pizza parlor because Julian Assange assigned a "wink wink nudge nudge" kind of deal at certain keywords in Hillary Clinton's e-mails. They went so far as to harass and threaten to murder the crew of that restaurant. They stalked and filmed children's birthday parties at the restaurant attempting to pass off found footage. They even shot the place up. And you know what? They had no basement in that place. But the damage was done.
The thing is, the GOP thrives on bullshit. I think we need to do the same. The GOP has some very experienced mud flingers on their side. They have Julian Assange, Alex Jones, and Roger Stone. These guys can bring the bullshit and then some. Who have we got on our side? We've got Michael Avenatti and Frank Figliuzzi, these guys are some old school Italian paizanos, who can fling bullshit on a scale equal to what the GOP has. We also have George Conway, the husband of Trump's chief press secretary Kellyanne Conway. Shit, we've got someone on the inside!
And what about a conspiracy theory of our own? Let's start a theory that Trump wears dentures. Hear me out. We already know that his hair is fake. It's no more stupid and childish than Pizzagate or Qanon. And the fact that he most likely doctored his health report which said that he weighs 239, is bullshit, is something that wouldn't take a person with a Public Health degree to figure out. So if he lies about things like that, who's to say that his teeth are fake? You can prove this, there's a ton of footage of Trump mispronouncing words, whistling, and simply giving up on what he was trying to say. And like any conspiracy theory, you can't prove it, but you can't deny that it's out there, either. It's a start!

(4,490 posts)It's why we have a creative speculation forum. 9/11 truthers are an example.
And I think you're missing the root problem when focusing on the fact that they believe idiotic conspiracy theories. The conspiracy theories resonate with them because they're founded mostly in racism, anti-Semitism, and other forms of bigotry.

(5,268 posts)We can just tell the truth and they will claim we're making it up, such as the "Russian hoax"
However they have to invent false conspiracy theories to make Dems look bad. Obama provided so little reason for any negative attacks that they had to invent lies about Obama to fuel rightwing attacks against his patriotism such as that he wasn't really American and was born in Kenya and was terrorist sympathizer.

Or how about this one? That he is a serial sexual predator that uses his money and power to molest women and get away with it.
Oh, maybe we can float a story where he is actually using his Presidential power to benefit his own businesses. And that he's put his relatives in positions of power that they are unqualified for while they make millions on foreign business deals.
How about this? That he is a compulsive liar that is shredding the credibility of our Nation and its institutions, and he makes up defamatory stories to destroy people out of pettiness and spite.

(21,693 posts)but no one would go for that one.
But maybe if we accused him of bribing a State Attorney General so she would drop a lawsuit against one of his scam businesses. That would surely raise the ire of law and order Republicans.
Or maybe we could say he is a phony Christian who wears Jesus on his sleeve to dupe the true believers.
I've got it! We could say that he studied the speeches of Adolph Hitler and uses the same propaganda techniques the Nazis used to turn their country into an authoritarian dictatorship. Well, OK, maybe that one goes a little too far. Not even a total crank would fall for that one.

Just like republicans have lied about saving Obamacare and saving Medicaid.
I don't care if the unemployment rate gets down to 0.5%, the DEMS should still say the words, "corruption, " and "terrible economy" in every campaign discussion.
Say it enough, and people will believe it. It sure as hell works for republicans.

Most of the Trump voters who are on or close to Medicare/Social Security age think he is going to protect it. Convince them otherwise of the truth and that would be better than any conspiracy theory that could be cooked up.

(1,442 posts)I'll admit, it would be great fun for The Resistance to float some conspiracy theories of our own. But, other than amusing ourselves, it wouldn't accomplish a damn thing.
Let's be honest, the unvarnished truth about Trump and the Republican Party should be damning enough as it is. But, The Republicult is oblivious to it, and a huge percentage of eligible voters don't carry enough about it to even show up at the polls.
