How does one get a star membership?

3. I would wait a week

We buy valentine hearts to anonymously give to other Du'ers. They are $1 each and you get a star membership with it.

When the :heart drive starts, just click on the hearts, they will take you to the membership page

membership time is additive. If the person got a membership now, buying hearts may add some time for each one.

I donate in chunks to maintain star membership. One time I was concerned that my membership would expire and donated an amount of money, DU admin seemed to have appended to star membership duration because it looked like it would not run out, finally I got a notice that it would end in x days and at that point I renewed. So, if a person buys a good amount of stars, the membership lasts beyond the stars vanishing. I think it is simple to just donate, $20, $50, $100, whatever a person think they can afford and let DU admin handle the rest.

I purposely waited until then to become a member. I still have my star for membership. I plan to renew this year. It has the added benefit of knowing when your membership is due for renewal.

7. Definitely wait for the Valentine's Week fund drive.

Giving and receiving hearts is one of the most fun things on DU.

And you don’t have to go bankrupt to join as a star member. You can donate $5 or whatever you feel you can afford.

But giving hearts for V Day is really fun, almost addictive. I look for those DUers who don’t have any hearts and give mine to them.

There should be an announcement soon. For every dollar you donate, you get to give a heart (anonymously) to another DUer. Even if you can only put up a dollar, you'll still get a year star membership.
