Just got an email response from a woman I danced with years ago that "Dems are just as bad", etc.

after I told her what I thought of the POS in the WH.

I just deleted the email. Should I just ignore this or not? It infuriated me.

Maybe I will not respond for awhile and see if she gets the message.

ask her why? Please be specific about what and when and what is her source. My guess most of her sources could easily be debunked - probably have been debunked.

Then you may want to ask which progressive policies she would like to see eliminated. If people keep voting the way they do these policies will end. Does she want to see Social Security end? Medicare? Medicaid? Interstate highway system? Rules on interstate trade and reciprocity? A few to start with.

Then you may want to know what Trump has done that is so great. The only policy that is really his is the huge tax cut for the rich that will turn into a tax raise for the poor and middle class in a couple of years.

Because that's just not a thing.

Everyone knows, whatever the worst is any democrat ever does,
A) we'll get rid of them ourselves anyway; and
B) there's a long list of republicans who are doing far worse

It tried that with a family member, though. He couldn't care less about Fat Nixon's bad behavior as long as he's getting tax cuts and his portfolio looks good.

and if you want specifics... research is the thing I do best

as I said in another post 'we can't force them over... we must win them fair and square'

as difficult as it is to swallow... we are all in this together and as long as there is even a ghost of a chance we need to try... our health, our safety, our dignity, our very future is in question if we don't do this correctly

You can acknowledge her feelings, perhaps refute some of her examples. Provide reasons why you feel otherwise and provide a massive list of examples of your own.

If no, then reply any way the mood strikes.

If indifferent, then tell her more or less politely you disagree and let it go.

If you value the friendship then recognize you are unlikely to change her mind. Just ignore this sort of thing. If it keeps happening, point out that you have been ignoring this sort of thing far the sake of your friendship and leave it in her court.

I have had to face this. I've done all three.

can’t admit they’re wrong. It’s the flippant throwaway line that proves their knowledge on the subject is so limited that they can’t defend their belief but they need to justify it.

I would just chalk it up as her being ignorant, in the true sense of the word, and move on. I’ve heard that accusation and it comes from not being truly aware or interest in politics.

“Thank you for your letter and for your enclosures. I have given some thought to our recent correspondence. It is always difficult to decide on how to respond to people whose ethos is so alien and, in fact, repellent to one’s own. It is not that I take exception to the general points made by you but that every ounce of my energy has been devoted to an active opposition to cruel bigotry, compulsive violence, and the sadistic persecution which has characterised the philosophy and practice of fascism.

I feel obliged to say that the emotional universes we inhabit are so distinct, and in deepest ways opposed, that nothing fruitful or sincere could ever emerge from association between us.

I should like you to understand the intensity of this conviction on my part. It is not out of any attempt to be rude that I say this but because of all that I value in human experience and human achievement.”

Tweak this and reply with class and dignity. It is not a good use of your time arguing with a trump cult member.

I dislike "pox on both houses" sort of people almost as much as I dislike actual right-wingers/Republicans. It seems to me that they have completely checked out of politics and basically have enough privilege to not care until something seriously adversely affects them and possibly not even then. They are part of our country's problems IMHO, which they will be quite content to bemoan whenever they feel like it, but since they can't bring themselves to consider anybody from either side because everybody is "a crook", they will basically refuse to do anything about anything, no matter how bad things are or how much of a horror show our leaders are. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life- thought I can certainly relate with yours struggles with ignoring it.
