Old, white guy here. Trust me, we need all the help we can get when we start getting serious about climate change.
I don't think we waste resources in the Southern cities, because they will be under water, but that's Republican rule they can thank. Don't really care about Miami Beach, but I do care about every metropolitan/cultural center that face the ocean and are fighting climate change..
Sobering fact, the Google tells me that Florida's average 'Above Sea Level' measurement is 6 feet. Good luck!

Most large cities in the south are also very supportive and protective of our immigrant populations.
Shit posts like this dont do anything to unite Democrats, but only serve to further divide this country.

What the hell is wrong with you?
You do realize that there are many DUers who live in southern states due to family obligations and job requirements, dont you? Many of us work tirelessly to elect Democratic leaders and to encourage young voters to register, and urge minorities to vote blue.
What an asinine post, to imply that the work of many dedicated DUers to unite voters against the republicans in our states is somehow our fault. You should be ashamed of yourself.

(5,385 posts)1. To flood proof a lot of cities in low lying areas will take a lot of manual labor.
2. Disproportionately, manual labor is done by unskilled workers, mostly immigrants. Watch a few home improvement shows, and look at who is doing the actual work if you don't believe that.
3. Florida - and many coastal states - are barely above sea level now, what happens as the sea level rises? Are we going to build a flood wall around those states? How long is the Florida coastline? Not a practical proposition.
Opinion:
The original poster is arguing FOR open immigration, and doing some predictions of the future. Refugees from low lying states will become common once their feet start getting wet if there is no action now.
Just not worded too well, OP.

2.Have no idea what your point is. The homeowner, watching Youtube DIY, will prevail?
3. Nope...and why should we? Floridians should have taken Al Gore's 'Inconvenient Truth' seriously. Instead, they elected climate deneirs.
Disproportionately large scale infrastructure can only be accomplished with continuous import of immigrant labor. Sure, maybe some of the Gig economy will trade their laptops in for hammers, but I wouldn't count on that as a sustainable idea.

(41,131 posts)you ('we') to judge, decide and foster more divisiveness? What 'resources' can be used and those that should be denied, what a load.

(24,467 posts)No judgement here, just opinion. Do you think Climate Change Death Panels will exist? If so, will Democrats or Republicans be in control?

Hell, Arizona and SoCal may only be inhabitable for another 20-30 years at this rate.
