Some are offended by it.

However, I encounter friends on a daily basis who are Native/First Americans, mostly Osage, Pawnee and a few Kiowa and they are all big Chief fans.

3/8s (1/4 from my mother, and 1/8 from my father)... enough to qualify to go to Haskell University in Lawrence Kansas... but I chose to go someplace else.

And yup, that whole thing is offensive.

I live in the middle of the country where everyone is a Chiefs fan. In fact, right now firecrackers are going off everywhere in my neighborhood.

I was a Chiefs fan before most of the current Chiefs fans were born.

I watched the very first "Super Bowl" (wasn't called that back then) and the 4th one (last time KC played in one)... as a young boy.

All that said, I don't think that KC played well enough to win. But they did so...

including the "Tomahawk chop"...

I grew up in KC... I watched both Superbowl I (Green Bay crushed KC and Superbowl IV (KC beat Minnesota). I have the special edition of the Chiefs magazine that was published after the win... and some of the players signatures on their photos.

And there was no war whoop or fake Native American chants... the most offensive thing was the "War Paint", a pinto pony ridden by a white guy in Native American plains tribe chief getup.

They got rid of that... but didn't get rid of the entire Native American association.

Now the mascot is KC Wolf... a ridiculous looking cartoon character.

Here is the wiki on the change:

"Before KC Wolf, there was Warpaint, a horse ridden up and down the field by a white man in mock Native American garb. In addition to being offensive to indigenous people and their cultural traditions, it was considered by some to be ineffective at captivating children at Chiefs games."

In my opinion they should have ditched the entire Native American / Indian American theme.

rationally finally. Before there were all kinds of excuses before and probably still will be until it does change.

I would imagine it will still take a while but it is passed time for this to change.

Things like this seem to change slowly. At least the horse and rider in full Indian dress (if it really is, I don't know) has stopped.

I heard that Mahomes said something about it but I do not know for sure if it was him. If he did things will start to change, I hope. I find it offensive and I am 0% native American.
