Well, Republicans, youve got that right. Where youre wrong is saying we were looking for something to impeach him over because no searching was necessary.
Many of us wanted him impeached for colluding with the Russians and make no mistake, he did collude with them. Remember all those contacts between Trumps people and Russians that were covered up and lied about and only admitted after being confronted with the irrefutable evidence thereof? Remember when the Trump Tower meeting was about adoptions? Yeah, right.
Many of us wanted him impeached when he handed highly classified information to the Russians right there in the Oval Office - making it clear that he was Putin's bitch.
Many of us wanted him impeached when he stood on that stage in Helsinki and declared that he was taking Putins word for it that he didnt interfere with the 2016 election despite the fact that our own intelligence agencies had uncovered overwhelming evidence that the Russians had done exactly that.
Many of us wanted him impeached when he insulted our allies and rambled on about how he and Kim Jong Un were in love, and how Kim had sent him beautiful letters.
Many of us wanted him impeached when he appointed inept idiots to his cabinet and other positions of power clearly hoping that their incompetence would undermine the institutions and agencies they were supposed to oversee. (Jared Kushner in charge of the Middle East? Youre kidding, right?)
Many of us wanted him impeached when he pulled us out of the Paris Accord and the Iran deal, when he abandoned the Kurds, when he locked migrant children in cages, and when he overturned laws that protect our environment.
Many of us wanted him impeached when he got to lie #500, then lie #5,000 what are we up to now? Lie #16,000 and counting.
Many of us wanted him impeached as his mental instability became increasingly apparent, and when his inane ramblings about things like wind turbines causing cancer clearly demonstrated that he is either brain-addled by drug abuse, and/or just plain stupid.
Many of us wanted him impeached when he used his hotels and golf resorts to generate personal income at the taxpayers expense, or to accept bribes from those who spent money at Trump-owned properties as a means of currying favour with your pResident.
Many of us wanted him impeached when it became blatantly obvious that your hard-working pResident spends most of his time sending malicious tweets between rounds of golf, rather than doing the business of the American people.
Many of us wanted him impeached when he embarrassed us on the world stage, time and again, by being a bloviating buffoon who thinks Nambia, Button and Nipple are actually countries his abject stupidity being a clear indication that he lacks the necessary intelligence to govern a nation.
Many of us wanted him impeached when he plunged the country into further debt by handing out tax-cuts to the wealthy, while doing nothing for the middle-class workers.
I could go on but I think youve got the picture. There was never any need to go looking for a reason to impeach this mother-fucker the reasons for doing so are as abundant as they are clear.
Of course, being a big fan of irony, I note that Joni Ernst(R) has now stated that if Joe Biden is elected in 2020, the Republicans will immediately move to impeach him. And there goes your they wanted to impeach Trump from day one argument because shes threatening to impeach Biden before hes even been nominated as the Democratic candidiate.
Thats going to make for a great campaign ad dont ya think?

(24,412 posts)that Republicans went after him for literally his entire Presidency. I believe that there was even one final investigation of him AFTER he left office.

(2,580 posts)You can only move to impeach if you convince the House-not likely with a Biden win.

(2,227 posts)Just like Moscow Mitch announcing the day after Obama was elected that they were going to fight him on everything.
Republicans don't DO bipartisan. They will only accept complete surrender, while getting at least ONE repub-lite democrat to vote WITH them, and call it bipartisan.
The ads just write themselves.

(25,979 posts)With the latest polls showing Hillary Clinton remains likely to win the election on Tuesday, Republicans are preparing for the possibility of a second Clinton White House by promising to make the next four years a living hell. Some lawmakers are talking openly about refusing to approve any Supreme Court nominees until a Republican is elected president, the F.B.I. is investigating both the Clinton Foundation and the former secretary of states use of a private e-mail server, and House Republicans have vowed to launch additional investigations of their own. Now, a growing number of conservatives are warning that there could be a constitutional crisis if Clinton is elected, and threatening her with impeachment. [snip]
President Barack Obama slammed the impeachment talk in a scathing speech Wednesday at a campaign stop for Clinton in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. You've got some Republicans in Congress who are already suggesting they will impeach Hillary, Obama said. She hasn't even been elected yet. And it doesn't matter what evidence they justtheyll find something. Thats what theyre saying already.
Not every Republican is ready to throw Clinton in jail. In a radio interview Tuesday, Texas senator John Cornyn said discussions of impeachment were premature as Clinton hasnt even been elected yet. And unless there is some additional evidence that the F.B.I. director and the Justice Department would take to a grand jury, then she is not likely to be convicted of a crime. But that doesnt mean they arent preparing to derail her potential presidency with a never-ending series of congressional hearings and investigations that could make the gridlock and partisanship of the Obama years look cordial by comparison.
Republicans wanted to impeach Hillary Clinton before day one. It's all about projection and partisan whining.
As always, great read, Nance!

(33,345 posts)The Republicans consider political power over everything else; there is no right or wrong any more, only wins and losses. Every event, every vote, every statement passes through that filter. The impeachment trial highlights this. It does not matter how much evidence the House presented, the Republican Senators only focused on protecting their party, which depends on there being no break from the propaganda machine's output.

(333 posts)The question is: Will the democrats running for president remind the american people every day why we needed him impeached. THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES NEED TO BE PERSISTENT IN REMINDING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WHAT KIND OF CROOK WE HAVE RUNNING OUR COUNTRY. The problem we face is that the media keeps pitting these candidates against each other forcing us to forget what a knucklehead we have in the white house. The economy is stagnated, the tax cuts are a bust, the trade war is a failure (the reason we don't feel it is because companies are absorbing the increased cost by not passing the cost to the consumer---this will end soon!). The republicans have let a criminal walk free among us. These are the things that the democratic candidates need to remind the people of EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! NON STOP!! WE NEED TO IMPRESS UPON THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT THIS PRESIDENT IS AN INCOMPETENT FAILURE WHO REGULARLY ASSOCIATES WITH LOW LIFES!! I think Nancy Peolosi and Adam Shift, and Jerry Nadler were geniuses in opening this entire process up to the world. Now the whole world knows he's a crook and none of his or foxnew's lying can spin him out of this--HE IS IMPEACHED AND HE'S GUILTY AND WE NEED TO BE REMINED OF THIS EVERY DAY!!!
