one of the strange things about climate change is that a warm day in midwinter, which might once have evoked thoughts of springtime and rebirth, now signifies a slow death

(19,066 posts)Not more meaningful than when we have a cold snap in September and FOX News runs it as proof global warming is fake.
Global warming is about average global temperatures increasing, this does not mean every part of the globe will get warmer, quite the contrary for some parts, global warming will mean parts of Europe will have much more harsh and cold Winters.
It also predicts more extreme weather events, which we are seeing too.
50 degrees yesterday here in MI, and it was the most sun we'd seen in several weeks. Looking like the mildest Winter I can remember, less than half the normal snowfall, and 7 degrees above average. 1 warm season in 1 region is not necessarily "global warming" though. It's several seasons above average in nearly a row, or more extreme weather events.
If we see a warm January day and cite it as proof of global warming, then we must also listen when FOX says it's cold outside today so obviously global warming is a hoax. Our side has to be more nuanced and held to a higher standard.

(18,770 posts)She wasn't pointing to a warm day in winter as definitive proof of climate change. She was wistfully recalling how an "Indian summer" day used to evoke thoughts of spring. Now, with such days becoming more frequent, one doesn't immediately think of spring; they think of climate change.
