(1,115 posts)Get all those Republicans on the record saying "yeah he did it but it ain't enough for impeachment" also on the record saying "nah, we don't even want to slap the guy on the wrist."

(41,932 posts)Not a great result but Id take it as opposed to blanket acquittal. Not that I have a choice.

(11,605 posts)I kind of wish Manchin had proposed this a week ago, when it looked like the GOP might lose on witnesses. It would have given everyone an out. Now I feel like we have less leverage. I think censure is pretty valuable because, like you said, Trump couldn't claim exoneration or dismiss this as a partisan witch hunt if members of his own party voted for censure.

(21,934 posts)Censure could be supported by enough Republicans to pass (if it's not a 2/3 vote) and Trump would HATE it. He thinks this is over, and he desperately wants to take his victory lap. Now Manchin has put pressure back on the Republicans to take some kind of action. (And it's a lot harder for the GOP/media to dismiss Manchin as some kind of partisan liberal.)
It probably won't happen, but I don't disapprove of this idea.
