Not that enjoyable a February Tuesday so far, for many, is it?
BUT, here's a little something for my fellow Rolling Stones fans.
This schedule or something pretty close to it is likely to be announced the day after tomorrow.
Unconfirmed, as of today, 15 cities, 15 shows. (Down, so far, from from last year's 17 shows in 15 cities.) Announcement probably on Thursday.
[Edited. Took out most dates as all but 2 - Austin and Buffalo.- actually weren't from strong sources yet. Added Vancouver. And the source for afternoon starts was iffy so pulled start times.]
[EDITED AGAIN. ACTUAL SCHEDULE IS OUT NOW. SKIP THE RUMORS, JUMP DOWN TO POST 17.]
5/3? Sun. San Diego
5/? Vancouver, Canada
5/? Minneapolis
5/? Nashville
5/24 Sun. Austin (at a large-venue speedway)
5/? Dallas
6/6 Sat. Buffalo
6/? Detroit
6/? Louisville
6/? Cleveland
7/? Pittsburgh
7/? St. Louis
7/? Charlotte
7/? Tampa
7/? Atlanta
No shows so far for DC (where I saw them last year), NYC, LA, Chicago, Philly, Boston. Quite a few smaller cities instead.

(386 posts)Unlike other bands they've never done bogus retirements only to retract them later. All of the "last tour" talk about the Stones has always come from others. They just don't do head-fakes about that.
I certainly saw no signs of them fading out last year. DC was freaking awesome.
That said the show does have to finally stop SOMEday. I think they will hang it up soon, my best guess being it'll be in England in 2022, the 60th anniversary of the band's founding, and in London where it all began.
But even if they do pull the plug soon, I dont expect them to box themselves in by saying so in advance.

(12,374 posts)There were several Ticketron stores that would pull and put aside seats for me. Add another $50 under the table to the order and I had seats to sell. This worked for several stores except one, Alexander's in the Short Hills Mall. The guy there, was "straight arrow. Six seats was the limit for anyone. No under the table. He had my phone number to call me when hot shows went on sale. He would do that for me.
And he also was concerned about his customers. That worked well for him until the "Stones" in Buffalo. I got my 6 tickets from him and went home.
He wanted to make sure his customers would have seats for that show, so he pulled 600 tickets from the machine and waited for his customers to show up - and he waited, and waited --- and waited. Not one ticket was bought and now its 7 o'clock and he's got to make a deposit of $9,000 by closing or explain to Ticketron why it isn't there and maybe lose the franchise.
So I get a call, do I want to buy 580 tickets at face value?

(386 posts)They -- Ticketmaster etc. -- don't price to sell out anymore, they price to maximize revenue... THEIR revenue, basically by "scalping" for themselves, for whatever the market will bear. Price very high... on something like this. Watch what's happening, and adjust accordingly... with the help of algorithms.
Makes for a little weirdness. On their site it looks like there's no or almost no seats left at standard price in Section X one day... everything else is a marked-up ticket. But a few days later there are more standard price seats available there again. They just moved some that weren't moving as part of pricier "special packages," back down to standard price. In the interim they had the advantage of the illusion of scarcity for standard price seats. Very clever/sneaky stuff! If you have the time and interest it can be even kinda fun to explore the seat map and figure out to maybe work it more than it works you. (Due to Mick's cardiac issue-caused rescheduling last year we could get refunds, and over the course of weeks in that additionally fluid ticket market I upgraded twice, ultimately deciding, what the hell, moving all the way into the Pit.)
Looks like the modern ticket pricing and selling tech does pretty well for them, and the big bands. As for us, it means high prices, but people who really want to see a band can. It's at a cost, but without having to go the dicier route of buying from a scalper and worrying about tickets being counterfeit.
This btw is not to say people don't still try to capitalize on buying and reselling tickets... they do. Ticketmaster and Stubhub will post and handle your speculation for you, for a fee. But the venue and Ticketmaster itself are managing their own product so they still have tickets to sell, too, so you're playing against sort of a better organized, smarter, in-house "scalper," in a sense.

(12,374 posts)$4.00 for front row Jethro Tull. $10 for The Who with Keith.
I saw The Who, Springsteen, Stones, Floyd, sultans of Swing, Mike Oldfield, zep. And on and on.
I was a school teacher at that time and I made more$$ off of tickets than full time teaching.

(386 posts)Bowie's Station To Station tour (my favorite album of his), Ramones' Rocket To Russia tour - it was their last w the original line-up, and the Runaways w Joan Jett fronting them opened... I think that was a $5.50 ticket. FACES! w/Rod Stewart, way back when he was good... their Ooh-La-La tour. Jethro Tull's Thick as A Brick tour, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours tour, Yes' Close To The Edge tour, Jerry friggin Lee Lewis(!), the Pretenders' 2nd album tour, just before half their original band died. Even Elvis... sort of by chance and when I was too young to understand or appreciate him... didn't really give a rip, because I hadn't heard his '54-'55 Sun Sessions records yet.
Regrets include not getting to Led Zep, Talking Heads, early U2. Not being able to get to Creedence before they were gone. Also was too young to have any shot at Janis, Doors, Hendrix, J. Airplane before they went Starship, Velvet Underground. And didn't even know about Joy Division til they were gone... and they never made it to America anyway.
Yep I'm one more boomer wondering how current popular music got into the state's it's in, and if anybody will ever again experience an era of music approaching what I got to. (My guess is "no." )

(12,374 posts)Springsteen, I was in about the 5th row, center, New Haven. I invited a date to the concert. She was hot and as much into sex as I was. Around 1/2 hour into the third set, she asks if I wanted to bail on the rest of the concert and go to her apartment.
YES !!! was my reply. I don't regret it.

(31,261 posts)The only thing that will stop them from touring is the grim-reaper. But it's wonderful to see, people who were not remotely a glint in their parents' eyes when the Stones reunited after one did time for drugs, rocking to their best with their kids, and even grandkids in some cases.

(386 posts)...another decade -- the guy's a 76 yo athlete. Keith loves playing, but I'm starting to think he might be starting to feel it... so much of their sound falls on his shoulders. He still delivers the greatness but you can see him working harder to do it. If they did play til someone dropped, Mick physically would be able to hold up longer than Keith could. He probably could outlast even Ronnie, "the youngster."
But it's Charlie, the oldest and the guy who most doesn't like traveling, who I think will, or would, most likely be the first to say he's had enough.
If Charlie retires, do the other Stones roll on with another drummer? Some say yes, my guess is no.
Probably won't be an issue, though. They're all smart, Mick's very smart, I think they've agreed on a end point and are all looking forward toward the same known stopping point. But, wisely, just aren't disclosing the plan to anybody else.

(31,261 posts)It is amazing how they stayed together when pretty much every other band tasted great success and let that break up the band. I have even seen pictures of them at mundane social events together. I agree that they likely have agreed to hang it up together, they simply would not be the Rolling Stones without one of them. I hope that they are not interested in being a band calling itself the same name, but with new members.
