Doug Jones Yes on Convict

Breaking MSNBC

Kyle Griffin ✔ @kylegriffin1

Statement from Sen. Doug Jones: "After many sleepless nights, I have reluctantly concluded that the evidence is sufficient to convict the President for both abuse of power and obstruction of Congress."

Manchin's still struggling with it:

Katherine Faulders ✔@KFaulders

Manchin says we won’t find out how he’ll vote before 4pm. “I agonized. It’s been very difficult for me.”

“I feel very strong about the decision I will make. It’s going to be a very, very personal decision. It’s very difficult,” he said, per @caphilltrish

No idea how Sinema's going to vote, either. Given her performance last night, an acquital vote from her wouldn't shock me.

His record tells all, I hope I am pleasantly surprised...all the theatrics about "being very personal, and so difficult..." Sure, OK...

votes to convict. Losing his seat would be bad for us, no other dem (even if in nm only) could win there. He’ the best we can do and we need him for numbers to regain Senate. That to me is more important than his vote at this point.

I'd rather have Manchin vote to acquit and have one more seat toward a Democratic majority. It's a meaningless vote, since they won't have a majority and definitely won't have 67.

Because he is doing what is right and best for the country above his self interest. It is also against the best interest of our party. We need the seat more, but being right and doing the right thing should still mean something.

It isn't in the best interest of our party when one of our own members votes to ignore treason, just for a few votes by some rubes back home. We keep the senate seat by changing minds, and recruiting those who feel disenfranchised, that their situation is hopeless, and didn't vote last time.

He did what was right, although I question all the "posturing" he went through to pander to those same rubes. He should be SHAMING them.

Pandering, in this instance, shows lack of character. This is NOT an issue that allows ANY middle of the road, "on the fence, it could go either way" stand.

Deciding to support, or not support, FUCKING TRAITORS (which is, unfortunately, now the ENTIRE republican party), is a no-brainer.

And welcome to DU.

To my knowledge the two articles don't even include all the emoluments, wasted taxpayer millions on perpetual golf trips/vacations, flagrant nepotism, and more! Maybe some of that is covered by the Abuse of Power in Article 1.

Good job, Doug!

Senator Jones is a bit of a fluke, but who knows, anything can happen. Even in Alabama, there may be some popular support for integrity and justice.

Who thought then years ago that the Republican Party would devolve into a slavish cadre of Putin apologists?

Who thought flag wavers would openly embrace treason?

because the vote will be to acquit at the end of it all. We need to all be stronger together more than ever before.

I missed the things she stood up for but there were a few other women in white who stood for a couple of things as well as some of the men. I personally do not remember anything worth even giving silent nods but then that's me.

He has incumbency and many newly activated voters behind him now. At the very least make them work their asses off to take him down.
