Why should a reporter investigate why they didn't tell us ahead of time that they think he's dying and wanted to make him feel good with a bauble of his very own? There aren't a lot of reporters to spare any more.

He's probably taking chemo treatments, those will take the weight off of you in a hurry.

Just using 4 in laws as a reference point. Even before the chemo the weight loss was happening which cause them to finally seek medical treatment. His skin color was extremely yellowed meaning well advanced stage.
