Impeachment Helps Trump?

Ever since the Democrats in the House pulled the trigger on Impeachment, I've encountered a few people, and not just Republicans but also some Democrats, surprisingly, that literally believe that Impeachment was a mistake and that it will only make Trump more popular. My question is, where is evidence of this? If we're following the polls, a majority of people in the country wanted Trump removed from office, so why would his partisan acquittal by a highly partisan Republican Senate (see, they don't really care about bipartisanship when it comes to Impeaching a President) make him more popular, not just among his base, but among the general public and put him in a stronger position in November? Where did this new "conventional wisdom" even come from to begin with and why are even some Democrats buying into it?

No, 538 has Trump in the same low 40s band he's always been in. Gallups 49% poll is 3 weeks old uponit7771 Feb 2020 #1

People no longer stick up for him anymore either. So how in the hell can he really have that much support?
