Why hasn't the NY AG started going after the Trump kids for all their financial crimes in New York? Neither Trump nor Barr can stop them and it would create leverage to get Trump to resign. But it seems like the AG is doing nothing.

(3,376 posts)Maybe they are on hold until the (dumpster) fire stops burning? The NYAG that replaced Rahm was really good. She was a bulldog. Can't remember her name off the top of my head. I was sad to see her go. This person replacing her was been worthless. She seems to be about status quo.

(58,785 posts)One federal government which has whatever powers the constitution did not reserve to the states -- but a whole bunch of powers are reserved to the states.
In this case, Trump can huff and puff all he wants, but the NYAG's brick house is not just stronger, and not just beyond his control, but will have the power to compel him once he's no longer protected by the presidency.

And believe me, what's going on is just the tip of the iceberg. Tish James won her AG spot in 2018 by promising to go after Trump & Co. like a duck on a June bug.
Thing is, though, she, like other state AGs, has to wait until federal courts are done with them.

(2,227 posts)The turd, nor Barr, nor anyone the turd appointed will have any sway over the process at that point. And if I were the new president, on day one I would fire everyone the turd hired. And have a ton of "executive orders" lined up to undo as much as possible of the turd's attack on every department, the environment, rollback of pollution limits, car fuel mileage, ALL of it that can be accomplished with an executive order.
Then RICO can be used to take every penny they have AND put them in jail. ALL of them.
At least that is what I am hoping.
But NY has been allowing them to do this for decades. I am concerned about their dedication to actually doing something.
I hope to be proved wrong.

(4,787 posts)James, who has been in office for 13 months, has been one of the lead AG's on most of the lawsuits filed by states against the Trump administration since she was elected. She also put his bogus private foundation out of business.
She also has responsibilities for a lot of things that have nothing to do with Trump, but are important to New Yorkers.
Do you have any specifics on the financial crimes that she (or Manhattan DA Vance, more likely) could be prosecuting right now involving the 'Trump kids', where NY has jurisdiction? If they're doing investigations right now, I doubt that they would be broadcasting any of that in advance. And if any of the crimes involve Trump himself, even indirectly, or foreign governments, the cases will undoubtedly wind up/be slowed down in federal court on a variety of issues, as Vance's current Trump cases have. Election day will arrive sooner.
Trump has to be voted out. No kind of clever silver bullet is likely to get him out of office at this point.
(Also, I don't think that they would prosecute the 'Trump kids' primarily for the purpose of making some kind of deal with Dad Trump for him to resign to protect them. Among other things, he simply would never do so.)

(1,975 posts)I think the State of NY doing anything while Trump is still POTUS would be a measure of "last resort" so to speak. I firmly believe they already had an agreement with Pelosi/Schumer to not do anything until the impeachment process was over. I believe they probably have enough evidence to get indictments, but the political climate is just too bad. If he wrote off the payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal as business expenses, and reported those as business expenses to The State of NY on his state taxes, then he committed State tax fraud. They know 100% whether he did that or not. There is NO WAY that Michael Cohen did not give them enough that some Trump could be charged under the laws of NY.
But now, charges would look vindictive because impeachment failed to remove him.

(5,268 posts)and even though court fight is to thwart NY State investigation, Barr's DOJ has weighed in to convince judges to deny request for his financial records while he is President.

(557 posts)Bill Barr say no one can investigate Trump on his watch or something? Maybe that is why they stopped and all criminals connected to Trump will be free. I am sure Michael Flynn will be out and
on his staff before we know it too.I fear we have lost out democracy.
