My father had a run-in with Mitt Romney years ago.

Here in Michigan. This would have been sometime back in the mid-60's, probably 1965, when George Romney was Governor. He started the story with, "you know, Mitt Romney almost didn't live to see this day..."

My father at the time worked for the road commission. One day his supervisor had to drop off something at the Romney home. He took my father and another coworker along in a county truck. They pulled up to the front of the house, the supervisor dropped whatever it was off (possibly survey data), and they began to drive away. Mitt Romney then came flying up in his own car, jumps out and begins yelling at them. You see, it seems that dear Mitt didn't take too kindly to lowly county workers parking their truck in his driveway and gracing his front door like they were people who mattered. Apparently it would "look bad" for people such as themselves to be seen in front of his house. I believe an entrance for servants was mentioned.

In any case, my father's supervisor was so insulted and pissed that he wanted to kill Romney. My father and coworker held him back because they were afraid he might do just that.

Since so much of the DNC focus was about character, I figured I'd share with you something I learned about Romney's. There's no way of proving this story, of course, but I've no reason to doubt my father. And Romney certainly has done nothing otherwise to prove he respects working class Americans.

Romney seems to have a short fuse, and when he blows up up he steps in a pile. I think he can be goaded into a shit-pile of a gaffe.

3. Mitten's hatred for Obama is so consuming . . .

he will explode the moment he is forced to stand face-to-face with him without Obama uttering a word. That conceited bile will well up in his throat and it might choke him to death (We can wish, can't we?). He will sputter his way through the debates making absolutely no sense because you can't think when your blood pressure rises that high. That dry-mouth clicking sound he makes will drive the technicians out of their minds before its all over. I know it gets to me and I change the station every time.

113. They drugged him for the Convention--I'm sure of it.

But all he had to do there was read from a teleprompter--and even at that, he slurred a word or three. The unfortunate use of "groin" instead of "growing" stood out (pardon the pun) to me.

I don't think they'll drug him for a debate, though--we'll know soon enough. You don't need Dog Hearing to discern that characteristic vibrato of tension in his voice when he's under stress and feeling defensive. He also talks in an odd, hesitating way when he's feeling pressure. All of that was totally absent at the convention speech--he sounded like he'd had half a scotch too many.

36. I'm all ready tuning up my...

...industrial-sized popcorn machine for the debates. Romney will be scripted and shellacked as hell. However, if Obama can fluster him or get him off script, Romney just might blow a gasket.

The man is too dumb to be an anchorman, but you can rehearse anyone enough to be tolerable. I really hope that Obama understands this and can get Romney off his game.

When they shake hands and greet on stage, Obama should say something hilarious just too throw him off like, "Please tell Ann to oogling my guns" or "I'm the hacker and I've got your tax returns in my pocket" or "Look! In the audience! It's Seamus! .... Boy he looks pissed."

I'll have to let my father know he was apparently lucky enough to see one. I'll also have to ask him again about some of the direct quotes from Mitt. This encounter left a fairly strong impression on my father. They are the same age, but from very different backgrounds. I think that being disrespected for being a working man by this kid who had everything handed to him altered the way he looked at things to this day.

He knows if Romney is elected it will be a clusterfuck of epic proportions and we will be lucky to survive it intact. That may seem a little dramatic, but with the people he's beholding to, we can all kiss our wages, civil liberties, and sure as hell my health care choices goodbye.

Obama's capable of putting Romney into an eccentric fracture-spin that will disintegrate him. And Romney won't even know it's happening 'till he's beyond the point of no return. Kind of like the washing machine when it tries to spin-cycle with the clothes out of balance.

But I'm afraid Obama's gentlemanly, courtly, and reserved intellectual demeanor won't let it happen.

Obama really got under their skin especially Bill's and the Clintons are Juggernauts when it comes to debates and campaigning.

Remember how foolish McCain looked in the debates. Clinton and McCain are very skilled debaters, and campaigners.

11. If this were but one anecdote about Mitt,

it could perhaps have been considered an aberration.

But placed in context with similar episodes (forcible hair-cutting, getting a blind teacher to walk into a door, posing as a highway trooper, ruining companies without considering that there are real people and whole communities behind the spreadsheet numbers, etc., etc., etc.), it definitely manifests an unpleasant character trait. It also exhibits an unbridled sense that he is to be treated in a more privileged manner than anyone else and most certainly never ever held to account for his actions.

That is not what I want in a leader. Not at all.

I cannot believe that any thinking person would want that in a leader. But there are apparently quite a few of those in America.

That is perhaps the most frightening thing of all.

22. Sounds about right

I Met the man once.
He was visiting my hometown and stopped at the Restaurant that my Mom owned.

Now, I'm not from the richest part of the state of MA. Fall River tends to collect Boston's poorer population seeing as how we have cheaper housing and a bus line that goes into the city. So, my Mom's place was simple, honest food, at decent prices. A little place called Maxwells on S. Main Street, near the Government Center.

Anyway, My mom had never felt so small as when Mitt stopped by for a visit. He was polite, but you could see on his face that he found the place distasteful. He smiled for the local cameras, but the smile ended as soon as the cameras stopped. It was almost as if he didn't want to be there, didn't want to touch anything. Gave us a few words about small business being the backbone of the city, and took off.

Me, I was washing dishes in the back while I was going through college. Stuck my head out and watched the spectacle.

What struck me was he made my mom feel as if her place was dirty. My mom broke her back keeping things spotless, and this really hurt her.

Great food, excellent prices, cheerful hard-working immigrant staff who remember your name, and make you want to come back.

Sometimes it looks like you've got to be on parole or public assistance to qualify as a customer. But it's also a place where you can start a conversation with the person at the counter next to you, and be surprised at who you meet.

And I've seen these scruffy, rough dudes come way down on people who disrespect the staff at this place.

I think it is clear that Romney never passes on an opportunity to belittle someone, your mom, the bakery cookies at a photo-op, even the London Olympics.

Belittling is his first thought and the first thing out of his mouth.

You and your mom should not feel bad. It is my belief that Romney will be blamed for the demise of the entire rapepublican party. Just deserts.

but personally dislike him, if that's even possible without meeting someone. I have never felt so disgusted by a candidate in my life, and this includes George W. Bush. I was raised Mormon, and actually believed the BS at one time, but this is not why I dislike him, though it's part of it because he is typical of the entitled patriarchy in that religion. I lived in SLC during the 2002 Olympics, and he struck me as extremely slimy and dishonest, and I've never forgotten that. Many people in SLC, including Mormons were not pleased with his actions during the Olympics. May he never, ever become president.

Sounds like a scene from it when the daughter of the maid, played by Cicely Tyson,
arrives at the front door of the home, while the owner is hosting a luncheon for

OMG, the hoity toity "President" makes the owner fire her maid--instantly--

39. This story meshes perfectly with other anecdotes I've read

It's obvious he views regular people as "beneath" him. Always has, always will. You can tell by the snarky "icebreakers" he comes up with. They're always an insult or jab of some sort. I remember in that Times article a fellow classmate of Romney's was interviewed. He said that Romney was friendly to him until he discovered that the guy had a scholarship and was a "day" student. He said that Romney didn't give him the time of day after he found that out. Everybody at the DNC said they were certain Romney was "a nice guy." No he's not. He's a boorish, spoiled, entitled snob who will govern the same way he's gone through his entire life--looking upon us Great Unwashed as something to be avoided, scorned, and ignored. If you're not rich, you don't count.

Mitt Romney is a worthless man to anyone but his cronies and perhaps people in the Mormon Church of his station or higher. I doubt he gives a damn about anybody else. I can sense it. He an Queen Ann should just toddle off and Mitt can run for President of the La Jolla McMansion Car Elevator Owners Association. That's all he's fit to oversee.

The Romneys lived in Bloomfield Hills in Oakland County, MI, just beyond Pontiac, MI which is the county seat and headquarters for the road commission. My father really respected George Romney, but was less than impressed with Mitt, LOL.

I presume it was some sort of survey data, as that's what my father did for the road commission, but I'm not sure (and I'm not sure if he was sure either as he was just out of high school, new to the road commission and flattered that his boss even asked him to come along).

59. I believe this 100%

The problem for Mitt isn't whether this is true or not though. His problem is that it is completely believable. If you told a similar story about Obama, only conservatives would believe it and not all of them, just the birthers, very few if any liberals would believe it. This story isn't a shock or a surprise anymore. The story about Seamus was a shock to me, because I had never heard of such a thing before and it is unbelievably cruel. The barber story well that is believable because by that time we heard about him buttering his kids faces and the story about his blind teacher. So, the pattern is there for anyone that has eyes to see it.

65. He must have just read "Atlas Shrugged"...and it stuck.

http://rooseveltinstitute.org/new-roosevelt/make-way-again-job-creators

"John Boehner made reference to Atlas Shrugged, Rand’s most famous novel, in a speech he gave recently to the Economic Club of Washington, D.C. “Job creators in America are essentially on strike,” he said, in an obvious nod to the decision by the “creators” in the novel to go on strike in defiance of an intrusive federal government. The nation immediately begins to falter, and the books concludes with its hero, John Galt, giving a marathon address in which he explains to the rest of the country why America is crumbling. The nation, in brief, has scared away the very people who keep the economy working, leaving behind those who are ill-equipped to fend for themselves. Describing the economic and social theory underpinning this vision, Galt says:

In proportion to the mental energy he spent, the man who creates a new invention receives but a small percentage of his value in terms of material payment, no matter what fortune he makes, no matter what millions he earns. But the man who works as a janitor in the factory producing that invention, receives an enormous payment in proportion to the mental effort that his job requires of him. And the same is true of all men between, on all levels of ambition and ability. The man at the top of the intellectual pyramid contributes the most to all those below him, but gets nothing except his material payment, receiving no intellectual bonus from others to add to the value of his time. The man at the bottom who, left to himself, would starve in his hopeless ineptitude, contributes nothing to those above him, but receives the bonus of all of their brains.

For all that it lacks in human decency, Rand’s vision of who makes capitalism work at least has the advantage of isolating a group of people who actually create something. By contrast, the current “job creators” rhetoric seems to elevate a group of people whose shared tax bracket is their only outstanding trait."

a pathetic leech, a thief of others' work. At best she would consider him a non-entity.

I know Ayn Rand is extremely unpopular on this board, but I read her novels and came away with a clear picture of the type of person she admired: those who do not compromise their principals (The Fountainhead) and those who create something from nothing - architects, engineers, composers, artists, etc. The very concept of the type of businessman that Mitt was would be quite distasteful to her.

At least that's what I took away from her work. She was also an incredibly bad romance novelist.

She was greatly traumatized by her experiences in the Russian revolution and it's tragic aftermath. The glorification of the worker versus the inventors, the artists, the innovators became anathema. I think she went too far. People like Ryan, and possibly Romney, who read her work were impressionable and immature. So they admire people who acquire wealth unencumbered or not by true creation. They are shysters and grifters. Am I close?

Arguably, Romney created nothing. Bain's wealth, as his own, came from leveraged buyouts. So yes, I believe that she would consider them thieves of actual production.

I grew up (mostly) here, about 4 years senior to the MittWit. Anecdotes abound. I've never detected any significant support or admiration for the MittWit. He's a 'spoiled brat' who grew up without having to learn how to wipe his own ass. "Hard work" has always been the prevalent 'value' hereabouts... even as there was a backlash against organized labor. People invariably ascribe 'hard work' to their favored politicians. I've never heard that ascribed to the MittWit.

Does anyone recall in the 2008 election, when prior to a "debate" at a Christian church in Orange County California, rumors abounded that McCain was fed the questions beforehand? I'm sure this kind of thing is being hashed out right now for Romney.

Barack better be concerned about these debates, because there's a LOAD of money behind that creepy-sociopath-CEO, and this may be their last chance at making good use of it.

112. Well, golly gee and gosh-a-roony! Poor Wittle Mitt! I hope he didn't blow a gasket trying to

lecture a group of lowly "You People" about the location and purpose of the Servant's Entrance!

What a fucking tool! Was he wearing his white pants and blazer whilst he delivered the scolding, I wonder?

123. I have a friend who was a dorm mate of Mitt's at Stanford U.

He told me a story about Mitt that is pretty violent. I would have to get permission to tell it or he would have to tell it himself. For me, it's hearsay but now it has a ring to it. I will say that it's not dissimilar from your characterization of MR. From another story told by the same dorm mate, I would ask if anyone knows if Mitt has ever mentioned to the general public about a place they called "across the tracks". Probably not, I would imagine. Now I'm getting mean and I don't like that, but people who pretend to be one thing and are something completely different, that bothers me more. And if they lie to get to a place of prominence, that I can't stand for.

If you are a believer in the Bible Mitt, it says, "Your sins will find you out". You can't buy away your history where honourable people are concerned, nor threaten it with a bat.

I'll leave it to the public to decide if this post should remain. If it is inappropriate, I'll be glad to remove it. I also wouldn't baulk at it being removed. But I said my peace.

127. A "pretty volent" story about Romney? Please ask your friend for permssion to tell it.

Now is the time, before the American people decide, for these things to come out.

136. I just need to know who would actually get hurt by the telling.

Giving MR a black eye so to speak would be fine with me, but where I live and where I work can be trouble. And the people I am talking about have their own lives they need to take care of. I can also see that we are not as safe as we had always thought we were. If it's a battle and a fight, that's good. If it is simply a titillating story, it's not worth the danger it could put others in.

I told this little story with just enough information that if those who are involved ever read it, they would know exactly what I was talking about. Other who read it can fill in some of the blanks; there are several hints. This way, no one gets hurt or scared and I get in my 2 cents. Whoever wants to put 2 and 2 together will get enough to show the personality of the GOP candidate as he is. The OP has a story that is fully detailed and I hope mine just supports his account.

131. Leave the post and tell us the story if you can in it's own thread.

You can always qualify it as hersay and leave the name of your friend out if he doesn't want to be mentioned.

126. I guess he considers himself an aristocrat and...

... working class people should use the servant's entrance
in the back.

129. From the clips, Mitt's parents appeared to be really nice,

caring, people.

How did Mitt turn out to be such a mean spirited bully who, when not bullying, feels and acts so awkward?

I think everyone has it all wrong--Mitt can't be himself, not because he's self conscious about his wealth, but because the real Mitt is a mean, heartless man.
