We need to appreciate and applaud what Mitt Romney did

His "Guilty" vote is the first time in history that an impeached president had a member of his own party vote for his conviction. Romney will make the history books if, for no other reason, doing what he had the courage to do yesterday.

He will forever be an outcast in the Republican Party and will take shit from them for all eternity. However, if you're going to be shunned by a cult, what better cult to be shunned by than the GOP. (That alone, should be considered an honor.)

I don't know Utah/Mormon politics, and I don't know if this will hurt Romney's reelection down the line. But, as far as I can tell, he is a man with a conscience and a true believer in his religious values.

Some of you may have stories of what a horrible human being he is, and crap he did in the past. But his vote yesterday indicated that he's his own man who did not cave to the bullying of the crazed orange creature, or the other 50+ gutless Republican senators. He deserves our respect. And he has mine.

He deserves credit for what he said publicly in the Senate

3. Indeed. This morning on MSNBC I heard a guest trying to downplay the courage aspect.

He was only thinking about re-election. He never took into account the complete and utter living hell this man and his family will experience over the next year.

4. He seems to be the only Republican

who took his oath seriously. The others have said that Trump is guilty, but voted the opposite. So to them, swearing before God is meaningless. I hope the Republicans kick Romney out. Imagine Utah Mormons switching to the Democratic party, the oath keepers.

5. Yes, he did half of a right thing yesterday,

and gave a truthful speech. As good a speech as his takedown of MF45 in the 2016 primary.

But if he were as "deeply and profoundly" religious as he says, he could never have supported what MF45 and the republicons have been doing.

Until yesterday, and the vote for witnesses, he's fallen in line with the rest of them.

He replaced Orrin Hatch who retired. As far as I know, Romney never hid his opinions or Trump.

12. He can say what he wants about MF45, and I agree with him

on that. Seems to be the only time he's straight-up honest.

He's voted with Moscow Mitch on almost everything, and stated he would have voted for Blackout Brett Kavanaugh, given Kavanaugh's "decades of honorable service"

He behaves professionally, with class, and is polished. I just don't think he's trustworthy.

14. But you can't take away from him what he did yesterday

Just imagine if about 17 or more Republicans had the guts to do what he did. Trump would be gone.

Romney and his family will pay heavily for this and will have to put up with incredible shit and death threats for a long time to come. And who would want to open up themselves and their families to the hatred/rage/madness of wingnut maniacs.

Whatever his past sins, at least recognize this one terrific moment of genuine decency and courage. Put yourself in his position for a moment. Would you have had the courage to say "NO" to pure evil?

It's easy enough for us to sit here and judge him on our keyboards. But, really, recognize that by following his conscience, he has put himself and his loved ones in danger. When you use your yardstick of who and what he is, at least recognize that he truly is a man with a conscience who lives by the values in which he believes.

Think about putting yourself and your loved ones in danger. Would you have done what Romney did? He deserves our respect and he deserves to be recognized for his courage.

He sighted his religious beliefs, wouldn't lie to God. If this situation were more funny, I would laugh.
