Anybody know if this Trumphumper campaign activity is legal?

I tried a couple of Google searches, but came up empty. Not sure if i know the correct terms or if it's even covered under state or Federal law. I just came into this information today, but according to the Postmaster of this location, they've been at it since yesterday or earlier. Postmaster said he cant do anything as they're not technically on the post office property. Basically a couple of local Trumphumpers are standing on the sidewalk, on either side of a local town's post office driveway, with signs. The signs read "defend Trump!" and "Impeach Schiff!".

There is a school across the street about half a block down. They're creating a traffic hazard as people are stopping in the middle of the street to read the signs before they turn. I imagine these idiots are looking for a fight, as the town is a democratic majority town. I thought I would start the Wack-A-Mole process with a phone call to the appropriate agency if this is illegal in California. Should I call the police? The rep's office? State office of some sort?

However, they can’t interfere with traffic while doing it. Police can tell them to move elsewhere, and you can be arrested for refusing an order from the police.

6. Thanks, I figured as much, but thought there might also be

a campaign law against being so close to a postoffice. If I find out who their group is (assuming there is one), I might be able to cause them some trouble and thus prevent this behaviour here and elsewhere.

14. It could, in some cases

be considered denial of access to the PO too. As long as they are on the sidewalk, not on the street, and there's no overt profanity or obscenity and they aren't blocking anything, they can be there. They can be told to move on if people complain and claim they are disrupting traffic or you feel they are unsafe in some way. Unless you interact with them, that's about it.

Check with the entities you suggested until you get a suitable answer. This will also give them all a heads up about these characters and that would probably be in your favor if you think they should go elsewhere... maybe the entities will too.

8. You're pretty much just asking if it's legal for two people to stand on a sidewalk with signs.

The answer is 'yeah, it is.'

If they were on post office property (which you made a point of saying they weren't), they could probably be made to move.

If they were blocking a driveway (again, you made a point of saying that they weren't doing that at all), they could be made to move.

I think you'll find that most folks here support the First Amendment. Even if we don't like the message, we'll support the right of the person to express it, without repercussions from our government.

So, what did you end up doing? What happened?
