Florida Republicans try to take power from lone Democratic statewide official.
The Florida House is moving to transfer the Office of Energy from the Department of Agriculture, while also considering whether to stop funding pending removal of gas pump stickers.
Senate President Bill Galvano said our budget does not reflect that change in funding.
The House has a bill working through with regard to structure. Theres also some proposals from the plaza level, Galvano added
If the bill passes the House, Galvano said, well have those discussions and go from there. If theres a valid reason for making those moves, then well support it.
Galvanos comments were more open to potential changes than those made Wednesday by Senate budget chair Rob Bradley.
Im not even sure theres a Senate bill on that issue and I would not consider that a priority of the Senate, Bradley said.
Withholding funds is also a non-starter, despite Bradleys qualms about the stickers having the picture of an elected official on them.
It makes no difference if its a Republican or a Democrat. Im just not a big fan of that presentation, Bradley said.
Well deal with it as Session goes along, Bradley said. Im not a big fan of the stickers in the present form, but my goodness. If the biggest thing were dealing with is stickers then theres not much going on.
