So why is the Secret Service now involved in the Pedrosa pedo scandal

Just heard that on Local 10. He was cuffed and is now locked up.

Spokesman for Miami mayor forcefully kissed child, sent penis picture, police say
Rene Pedrosa faces computer porn, other felony charges

A former aide to the mayor of Miami has been arrested after he invited a child to his office, inappropriately touched the victim and then sent the victim a picture of a penis, police said.

Rene Pedrosa was arrested Friday morning on felony charges, including promoting sexual performance by a child and computer pornography.

According to a Miami police report, Pedrosa met the victim via Instagram and invited the victim to his office in November to discuss a web page design.

While Pedrosa was escorting the victim out of the conference room, Pedrosa stopped, grabbed the victim’s hand, forcefully kissed the victim on the lips and grabbed the child’s buttocks, the report said.

“The defendant then grabbed the victim’s hand and placed it on the defendant’s erect penis,” the report said.
The child is sixteen.

I'm betting Pedrosa was a guest at you know where - he was the mayor's Communications Director.

Because he is an aide to the Mayor, the Miami Dade PD referred the investigation out to the state, to avid allegations of conflict. But there’s nothing anywhere I can find that mentions federal authorities.

The Secret Service would be involved in counterfeiting and other Treasury-related investigations, but there is no indication of any federal involvement at all in this investigation.

Is there some other article which mentions federal involvement?

just heard that on Local 10.
That said, your point about the Feds is valid because conflict of interest was raised since yesterday. On the other hand the Feds aren't the Secret Service.

Notice that they mention in the video report on that page that they have been looking into his electronic communications involving contact with minors.

The presidential protection detail is a relatively minor part of what the Secret Service more broadly does...

The Secret Service also investigates missing and exploited children and is a core partner of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

...

The USA Patriot Act, signed into law by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001, mandated the Secret Service to establish a nationwide network of ECTFs in addition to the one already active in New York. As such, this mandate expanded on the agency's first ECTF—the New York Electronic Crimes Task Force, formed in 1995—which brought together federal, state and local law enforcement, prosecutors, private-industry companies, and academia. These bodies collectively provide necessary support and resources to field investigations that meet any one of the following criteria: significant economic or community impact; participation of organized criminal groups involving multiple districts or transnational organizations; or use of schemes involving new technology.[31][32]

The network prioritizes investigations that meet the following criteria:

Significant economic or community impact,
Participation of multiple-district or transnational organized criminal groups,

Use of new technology as a means to commit crime.
Investigations conducted by ECTFs include crimes such as computer generated counterfeit currency; bank fraud; virus and worm proliferation; access device fraud; telecommunications fraud; Internet threats; computer system intrusions and cyberattacks; phishing/spoofing; assistance with Internet-related child pornography and exploitation; and identity theft.
