...while Susan Collins, Lamar Alexander, and Lisa Murkowski look even worse.
They should have known that Trump would immediately make them look like complete assholes.

(35,654 posts)We know that whenever trump escapes accountability he has to gin up some new situation from which to escape. It's a psychological pattern with him. Either something will break (such as the tax returns) or his health will take a nose dive. A stroke is my preferred means. (Can you tell I think about this A LOT?)
Mittens is totally positioned to take over that leadership role. He will fall right into it because, for one thing, he "looks" presidential. He has gov't experience. He favors the elite, so there will be machinations to maneuver him into place.
The republicans are fools for putting their fate in such a shaky individual as trump. He is actually quite fragile, with scandals, lawsuits, behavioral problems, poor judgment, stupidity, and on and on. Just one little slip, either of fate or his own stupidity, and it could fall right into the hands of Mitt Rmoney.
People around this forum like to lament that Trunp gets away with everything. He doesn't. The price for one's disgraceful, immoral behavior is not always prison, although we all would like to see him behind bars.
He paid a huge price during impeachment--you could see it on his face and with his family.
Nobody and I mean nobody is immune to fate/karma/whatever you want to call it. His day will come.

(21,431 posts)he might "win" the election. The means to steal it will still be in place. But he might not need to do that.
He has made himself a hero with his vote, which is why I have not given him my praise for it. I do not believe his vote came from an altruistic stance for nation above party. It was no great risk for him. He knew Trump would be acquitted so he would not be blamed for convicting him with his vote. I believe his vote was a calculated act to get just what is happening -- praise and a positive image among Dems, Independents, and those Pubs who are embarrassed by and fed up with Trump's lack of decorum.
Romney is no John McCain. He is a totally self-serving individual painting himself as moral and religious for the sake of a future (near future) run. At the very least, for the sake of taking over party leadership and influencing/rescuing it.

(8,810 posts)They are just warming up............believe me.......a huge number of people should be worried. Trump is a vengeful psychopath narcissist and sadist.
the next few days and weeks will be just he start. He and the Repubs now are justified in thinking they can do anything, illegal or not, and get away scott free........Think what they will accomplish with that kind of power. We have seen what they have done and controlled without that kind of power...........
it is rumored that Trump and Barr are working on Criminal Charges against Adam Schiff and a bunch of others including dems in the house and government employees who testified, charging them for false prosecution, and other ginned up Criminal Charges.
I am sure that the Wrath Of Hell is gonna rain down on Biden and Son from every gov't agency including the FBI & DOJ.
They can subpoena them and keep them in depositions and hearings non stop from now until the election.
Obviously that is the person the Repubs are worried about, not the others.
They will have a perp walk, with a huge bunch of handcuffed dems in front of fox news cameras to rally their pathetic crowd and voters.......

(111,245 posts)and I imagine this purge will get to Stalinist proportions, every petty grudge among White House staff to be turned into telling him that others spoke to his enemies but refused to testify. I imagine George will get Kelly Ann fired, which might have been his aim all along.

(14,570 posts)As odious as I find Romney's politics, his 'corporations are people, my friend!' statements, and his predatory capitalism as an officer of Bain Capital, were he president instead of Trump, we could feel much more confident that he would put country above party when the chips were down, and that he'd govern in a sane kind of way.
With Trump now that he's been acquitted, all bets are off.
We've got to vote that man out of the White House in November. We've got to.

We are being taken over by the most insidious coup to our government in the history of governments being taken over. For the first time in history they have unlimited amounts of money and have purchased control of media (both broadcast and social) and by slow attrition the legislatures and courts. We are not in some sort of theoretical fascist state, we are living in one.
