Escaping "Them"

A while back, I had a neighbor who lost his job. Given his skills, he could have found another one in a week. But he decided to move himself and his family to New Hampshire.

When I asked him why, he stated that there weren't many "nig#*rs" in New Hampshire.

At the time, I really had no idea that this neighbor was a racist. I hadn't lived in the neighborhood very long and had no idea of his biases and hatreds until that moment.

I was torn between spitting on him or just turning my back and walking away. As far as I can remember, all I did was say something like, "Yeah, whatever," and then I went home, stewing that I hadn't told him that he was an ignorant, bigoted prick. (Have no idea what's happened to him since.)

This was quite a while back. But it's one of those incidents in life that you don't forget and can't forgive.

I thought of this because of the upcoming primary in New Hampshire. I don't know the demographic makeup of New Hampshire today, but I suppose it doesn't matter since there are no longer any black candidates in the race. Full disclosure: I was really leaning toward Kamala.

I suppose what l'm really getting at here is why the contest for the presidency starts in mostly white places like Iowa and New Hampshire. Why not, New York, L.A., or Atlanta, or someplace that is more representative of a broad range of America and Americans.

But this post isn't about the primaries so much as it is about my firsthand encounter with an absolute piece of shit. A piece of shit who wanted to move elsewhere to "Escape the Niggers." If he's still alive, he probably has posters of Trump all over his car and house.

As a devout agnostic, I have no idea how or why we came into being. But if some universal intelligence was behind it, he/she/it was a totally fucked up incompetent. Think about that for a moment. Is this the world you would have designed?

I have no doubt that there is no universal intelligence.

All those concepts are our own creations.

Let's just get on with saving planet earth.

Our state is not as white as NH and it is the most red state in the union I think. We have a fairly large population of Hispanics and of course Native Americans who were here before any white people, but they are treated horribly by the state. We have been here 20 years, my husband keeps saying we stay because we "can make a difference", I don't see it, but he is a forever optimist.
