Article: They Are Afraid

https://www.alternet.org/2020/02/they-are-afraid-democratic-senator-reveals-what-republicans-say-about-trump-behind-closed-doors/?utm_source=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=3663

Snip of article:

In a new op-ed published in the New York Times on the day Donald Trump was acquitted in his impeachment trial, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio called out his Republican colleagues for their fear of the president.

Behind closed doors, he said, GOP senators openly admit to Trump’s flaws and misconduct:

In private, many of my colleagues agree that the president is reckless and unfit.T hey admit his lies. And they acknowledge what he did was wrong. They know this president has done things Richard Nixon never did. And they know that more damning evidence is likely to come out.

That’s a high bar. Look what they did to Romney.

According to Sherrod Brown, they are all afraid to speak out publicly or do anything remotely heroic for fear of retaliation. Jeff Flake said much the same thing: a secret ballot would have convicted Trump.

... are afraid of his base. Or more accurately what he can do with his base.

Removing him from office would not cancel his twitter account or prevent him from doing press interviews. He would tell the base to primary them. The base has numbers sufficient in most red districts to make that happen. Many of the republican asshats that win the primaries would likely get killed in the GE, and suddenly republicans are dramatically out of power and democrats have a substantial majority in the house and senate.

It’s partly self preservation of their own seats, and partly acting to try and save the party’s influence. There was no way they could vote to remove him. It would have turned every ounce of power over to democrats.

Feb 2020

It's that machine that they fear which can destroy their lives and dreams. Trump is just currently a significant part of their execution team. They behave this way no matter who's in charge.

Before tRump, most Republican leaders had enough sense to conceal their dirty work. However, tRump does not give a shit and we're seeing the nasty underbelly of the right-wing in plain view.

I would submit it's those hidden ultra-wealthy supporters that they dare not cross such as the Mercer, Koch, and Murdoch groups, and a vast number of millionaires including Russians, Saudis and others which they've sold their souls to.....

I don't believe it. The Republicans are getting the government they want from Trump. They believe, correctly, that he has a very good chance to be reelected. Pence would not be elected. Google Atlantic Magazine and read the article on the immense propaganda machine that Trump has assembled.
