Something is seriously wrong when Don the Con responds to the guest speaker at their prayer breakfast and says loudly that he does not agree with the Sermon on the Mount. He then proceeded to attack the Speaker of the House and Romney.
The silence from the fucking evangelicals, the so called religious leaders and ReTHUGs is deafening.
They are all cowards and hypocrites -they are as fake as the Con's skin color. I'm so glad I'm an atheist.

And that tells the story in Biblical termsTrump culls out the phony, evangelical Christians from humble, God-fearing Christians. And it happens because Trump evangelicals are clueless hypocrites, willing to follow the man their own Bible warns them of being Satan in the flesh.
But they dont listen and lock up kids in cages, steal from charities, and destroy the Earths resources. They have no faith in the God they profess to believe in.

(7,721 posts)when I was beginning to pay more attention to politics I was really turned off and angered watching how Clinton was constantly attacked, but not really knowing if there was anything real being investigated.(and of course, that was the point) I started listening watching and reading everything, left, right, local, you name it.
Misguided vote for Arlen Spector aside, I'd always voted Democrat because the issues always lined up with my morals and values, but I didn't really know know, like to explain or debate with a politically knowledgeable person about any of it. I considered both sides.
Of course it quickly became clear Republicans were making shit up and had a disingenuous way of spinning everything and they would get ugly and personal. I even listened to ole Rush Limbaugh and that really opened my eyes to how the right wing was operating. High and mighty, family values, military, Conservatives good/Libs bad, etc.
In 2000 I was keeping an open mind, liked McCain and was giving him a fair look. I remembered as little girl the live footage of the POW's walking out of the plane, my mom tearing up as the serviceman she sponsored walked down the plane steps, the salute. She got to take her rubber bracelet off. I mostly remember the skinny white haired good looking guy who got the most buzz.
Growing up, as far back as I could remember, I was terrified my older brother would likely get drafted into the Vietnam War and prayed every night, begged God to protect him, that the war would somehow end before he turned 18. As it turned out, it did and I will never forget the relief and joy I felt.
I saw John McCain as a hero for real and watched in disbelief as Rove/Bush disgustingly smeared him, a man who gave so much. The most vile, racist, unamerican smears. I had a hard time wrapping my head around it. The light bulb moment, the realization: With Republicans The Ends Justify The Means.
The Ends Justify The Means.
They didn't really care about the military, those men and women who bravely served. It was a mind blower for me. If they could turn on a war hero....
If the ends justify the means then they stand for nothing. And that makes them capable of anything.
I knew at that moment I would never, ever, EVER consider crossing the line to vote for political party with such a philosophy. I knew it could, and now we see it has, lead to evil.

(15,237 posts)After spending a lifetime in education as a special education teacher, child psychologist, administrator I have observed Trump from a safe distance many hours. My hobby is history both military and political history. I can point out how Donald Trump fits in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual. My conclusion he is beyond redemption and treatment, some of his followers may recover someday but not Donald Trump. Trump created a philosophy without a real name when he is gone it will remain as a belief and blight on humanity of pure malevolence. When dealing with Trump in religious terms he is just not the Anti Christ Donald Trump and his malevolence is the antithesis of any rational thought produced by the human species. Ignore him or his followers at your peril he is evil.

(61,690 posts)Children with diagnoses of this sort need special training while they are children in order to learn about others' feelings and how to adapt to have a functional life in the world. If trump hadn't been born into that family, I suspect he'd be in prison for serious felonies, including rape and manslaughter.

(15,237 posts)His Grandfather was into prostitution and fleecing miners. The Trump family fortune was built on defrauding the Government in housing. Donald is another chapter in the criminal enterprise and his children will carry on the family name. It will be interesting to see if one of the family someday turns on Donald Trumps domestic abuse.

(1,668 posts)They got fleeced no doubt, and essentially every person who flocked to Alaska and the YT to sell stuff to miners was going to fleece them. The miners failed to learn the lessons of 1849, the miners go bust, the merchants make money, the financiers own the claims. It's a repeatable process followed by every gold and silver rush North America has had. So I agree the miners got fleeced, but the nature and kind of fleecing varied. Trump chose a kind of fleecing that damaged everyone but the pimp.

malaise
(268,844 posts)That is different from why people are atheists - speaking for myself I simply don't believe in some imaginary being. I have no gods - I think everything can be explained by science and evolution.
I think all religions facilitate postponing reality. From I was a pre-teen I challenged by very Catholic mother on matters faith and belief. She genuinely believed and carried it to her death bed. She knew I didn't.
I don't challenge anyone's beliefs - everyone must decide for her/himself.
For some folks religion is about networking not belief.
Dukkha
(7,341 posts)They are all about networking not belief. They share a common goal to expose the agenda of religious groups that are working under the false guise of religious freedom when challenged with to the inclusion of Satanism.
I adhere to Car Sagan's philosophy where you can believe whatever you want if it givers you peace of mind and inspires charitable works, but your personal beliefs end where the state and educational institutions are concerned. My mother is stage 4 Glioblastoma right now and in hospice care. If her faith gives her relief through her end of life care so be it.
So be it is correct - hug her - that's what she really needs

(14,566 posts)You want to see something funny? Here's the rationalization for an op-ed written in the Christian Post as a response to the Galli editorial against Trump that forced his (Galli's) resignation.
Think about that for a minute. I'd say evangelical witness has already been irreparably damaged in an 'unbelieving world.'
I'm not an atheist, nor even an agnostic. In the context of my own peculiar path, I'll say this: I believe the Christians have gotten the concept of 'salvation' wrong. Basically, in the current evangelical rubric, you a) hear an altar call, b) are absolutely overcome with how loathsome you are because of your sins, c) get on your knees and say the sinner's prayer, and then d) you are saved and your soul is now on 'autopilot' - when you die you'll automatically fly up to heaven.
That, friends, is a very libertarian model. Hooray for me, and fuck you! I'm saved and you're not! When I'm in heaven, you'll be gnashing your teeth in a lake of fire!
No. Salvation to my mind is a process whereby the human species 'grows up,' a process whereby we together decide to begin planning forward as a species, organizing ourselves so everyone has enough and we are preserving this earth we all share. It is COLLECTIVE, not INDIVIDUAL.
Oh-oh! My unicorn is showing!

"The Biggest Loser in the Alabama Election
Its not Republicans or Democrats, but Christian witness."
"No matter the outcome of todays special election in Alabama for a coveted US Senate seat, there is already one loser: Christian faith. When it comes to either matters of life and death or personal commitments of the human heart, no one will believe a word we say, perhaps for a generation. Christianitys integrity is severely tarnished."

(14,566 posts)When the early Christians declared the Gnostic perspective heresy, it was downhill from there. The idea that the success of a faith is measured by the number of converts is as bad as the libertarian ideas around individual salvation and the selling out of all other Christian perspectives for the sake of the one issue - abortion.
Well, enough of that. Each person believes what they believe and is on his/her own path.
Problem is, if these people get their way it affects all of us too, and not just the evangelical right-wing-nuts.
