South Dakota House of Reps (GOP controlled, of course) bans tribal IDs for voter registration

As noted in the article, the TSA accepts them for air travel, just as it does drivers' licenses.

South Dakota Democrats called foul on Friday after the Republican-dominated House shot down their efforts to allow Native Americans to use their tribal IDs to register to vote.

The defeat Thursday evening prompted several Democrats to level accusations of voter suppression. Republicans say their resistance is all about keeping voter registration secure.

"The way our voting system is set up does disenfranchise particular Native American voters," said Rep. Ryan Cwach, a Yankton Democrat.

In the 2018 general election, tribal communities reported some of the lowest voter turnout figures in the state. Native Americans make up 9% of the state's total population.

On Thursday, the House considered an amendment to a voter registration bill that would have allowed tribal IDs to be used for voter registration, alongside state drivers' and nondrivers' licenses and social security numbers. Republicans defeated the measure, arguing that the secretary of state could not verify the information on the IDs, which are issued by the tribes. They were also concerned that not every tribal ID provides an address, which could allow people who live outside the state to vote in South Dakota elections.

Rep. Shawn Bordeaux, a Mission Democrat who is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, said tribes in the state have improved the quality of their IDs in recent years. They now include addresses, holographics and other security measures. They are recognized by federal agencies and can be used to take flights...

They don't believe in freedom.

They don't believe in democracy.

They don't believe in voting.

They don't believe in equality.

They don't believe in separation of church and state.

They don't believe in science (They do, but they pretend they don't.)

They don't believe in a government FOR the PEOPLE.

They are truly evil vile humans.

The republicans are a bunch of cruel, criminal, racists. They are denying the citizens the right to vote, by making them have to jump through all kinds of hoops to participate in their democracy.

We need to win elections, right? We know these tactics are designed to make us lose. So, what if instead of spending the money to fight these laws right now, we PAY for people to help get them their state ID? We set up systems to help them get what they need to vote now.

Then we get them to the polls by the bus loads.

Then once we’ve taken the state houses, we address these ridiculous laws once and for all!!!

We need to fight smarter!

Winning lawsuits set precedents to knock down other disenfranchising laws that are created. Don't give them an inch.

The ONLY way to teach these racist fucksticks a lesson is to do this shit to them when you have the power and opportunity.

When Dems gain control of legislatures and states, they need to specifically target these racist Dumbfuckistan Murika pockets of shitbags.

Close polling places in these areas and make these racist amphibian turds have to travel 4 hours to vote at their new polling place inside an LGBTQ bar.

It's past time for being nice to these ignorant ass-pickles

as I understand it. Legally, I'm not sure they are different from a state in that sense, but I don't know how that works.

But, sticking to issue of tribal ID . I think it would be possible for a person to have a valid Tribal ID that has an address that is not on tribal land.
