University of Louisville President Neeli Bendapudi says the school has much work to do when it comes to making LGBTQ students feel safe on campus after a student burst into an LGBTQ Studies class and began handing out antigay literature
Just dont ask her to do any of that work. Its not in her $900,000 job description.
The disturbing incident happened last week. Associate professor Kaila Story was in the middle of a lecture during her Introduction to LGBTQ Studies class when the student, who was not enrolled in the course, waltzed into the room and began distributing pamphlets.
Perhaps you believe you are gay, or maybe you are sympathetic toward homosexuality and you think that what people do sexually is their own business, the 36-page handout, published by the Christian group Living Waters Publications, read.

It seems that a disruption of a class should involve a bit more of a penalty.
Lots of Christian groups meet on campus. I wonder if the LGBTQ community should start attending those meetings and handing out literature?

(6,907 posts)Universities have to work harder on student mental health. Thank goodness this person only had a handout. We have to support free speech, however in this time and age security of the other students has to be paramount.

(82,849 posts)This isn't "free speech" from what I can see. The disruptive student wanted to hand out his little pamphlets and scurry away without engaging in any kind of dialog. That's bullying and harassment. Not a hard call at all, unless you're being deliberately obtuse.
