If you think *existing* Confederate monuments are bad, here's one the didn't get built.

In 1923, a group of white women wanted to build what they called a “monument to the faithful colored mammies” in Washington. These women, members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, pressed lawmakers in Congress to introduce a bill. The Senate passed it, but the bill stalled in the House after fierce opposition from black women, including Mary Church Terrell and Hallie Quinn Brown, members of the National Association of Colored Women.

I have run into that type of unreconstructed person, claiming they had "cradle to grave" food, clothing and shelter and medical treatment! Oh I guess the possibility of being sold away from your family means nothing as long as you have all that (allegedly)!

9. Barely related, but what flashed in my mind, was my annoyance

every time I use my National Airport, was/is the huge, grand statue of reaganhood at reagan National airport.
