the msm takes its lead from foxnews. outside of the right-wing propaganda network, the coverage of those topics is more reasonable, but the msm already failed when it let foxnews set the agenda and terms of debate.
this goes way back, the msm gave donnie free reign to talk about his birthism bigotry. foxnews covered it as it it were a serious scandal. the msm covered it with rather more skepticism, but clearly they felt they needed to cover the topic and give donnie and other birther bigots at least half the airtime.
donnie was able to build a foundation for a presidential run on a blatantly obvious non-news story. from a journalistic point of view, there was literally zero news in this, obama's legitimacy as a natural-born citizen was never in doubt. mccain's birth in the panama canal zone was made legit by an act of congress, but that was only covered briefly; obama's birth should never have been more of an issue than that of a presidential candidate who actually was born outside the u.s.
instead the msm let foxnews set the terms of the debate, so donnie's position on a made-up issue got treated as an equal view on a "controversial" topic.
