New Poll Shows Deep Red Kansas Slipping Away From Trump And Republicans In 2020

"SNIP....

Since last week’s Iowa caucus, the media has been pushing the narrative that Democrats are doomed and Donald Trump’s reelection chances are stronger than they’ve ever been.

They point to an outlier poll from Gallup and the president’s fake acquittal in the Senate as further proof that he is riding a wave of momentum into the general election.

But more polling released on Monday further confirms what has been true all along: Trump is in a weak position heading into the November election – perhaps weaker than any incumbent president in modern history.

That doesn’t mean he won’t win, of course, but it does mean that he isn’t this unstoppable political force that some in the media have been portraying him as in recent days.

Couldn't find a Repuke in the whole state, but then mills closing, coal mines closing, people moving out and an aging population turned it.

Attorney General, Auditor General and Treasurer. After the state supreme court tossed the gerrymandered congressional maps, the partisan split is now 9D, 9R, the legislature remains R-controlled, but the state senate no longer enjoys a super majority and Dems picked up 11 net seats in 2018.

Trump winning in 2016 was a complete fluke.

unfortunately .. "the rest of the story," a la Paul Harvey .. is that Kansas made a strong right turn with the Tea Party wingnuts .. and has more recently been the home of ideologues like Kobach and Brownback.

I'd be happy to see them coming back towards center .. but there's a lot of ground to cover before they reach anything like Kassebaum or Dole. (or voting blue in a presidential)

It's also a less expensive media market than a lot of other states. National party dollars spent there in support of Democratic candidates can get a lot of bang for each buck. Every dollar Republicans have to spend defending Kansas is a dollar they don't have to spend in other states.

I'd really like to see that red stripe down the middle of the electoral map from North Dakota to Texas have a break or two in it come November.

especially about the media market .. and money spent. Good points.

As far as the "break" in the red line? You can safely forget the top half there. I hear good things about TX. And I'd say your next "shot" might be in IA? Don't see a lot of encouragement in the midwest beyond that.

But a significant portion of Nebraskans isn't happy about the KXL pipeline running through their farm land, and that's a Republican program from the get-go. There might be some opportunity to sway the Cornhusker State in coming elections.

noting that Arizona looks doable, and possibly North Carolina, and there are shades of hope in Georgia and Texas.

Just have to stay in the fight. I'm in a blue state, so I can't help there. We do have a flippable red seat in the House or two, though.
