If Capitalism So Great Why Is The Planet Close To Total Environmental Collapse?

Mass extinctions happening now.
Australia used to have trees that aren't black, and Koalas.
Ice melting, and permafrost thawing.
65 degrees in Antarctica a couple days ago.
Floods, Fires, Hurricanes, Droughts.

100 trillion in worldwide debt.

Carbon and methane being pumped into the atmosphere like it doesn't matter.

The whole system is broken soooooo badly.

All in the name of capitalism where a few get most of the goodies while the rest of us know our grandchildren don't have a chance of a good life on a dying planet.

Ask Greta.

Any ideas?

Elon is planning on moving to Mars, but he can afford it.....

every generation or so capitalism requires a complete bail out by the taxpayers.

the 2008 bail out cost over 16 $T but that is ok because we saved capitalism!

Our belief structures, like capitalism, just make the problem worse.

called for government regulation to keep it fair.

Modern day radicals tell us "just a few more tax cuts for the rich and a few more cuts to regulations and we will be there".

Smith used the phrase "invisible hand" but one instance in the Wealth of Nations. As you said, he discussed the importance of proper government regulation of enterprises. He also provided some moral insight into capitalism that is usually absent when people speak of business. Smith was not antagonistic to labor and actually spoke out against the working conditions that some were forced into with the extreme division of labor.

To get to the larger point of the original poster, I think that market capitalism has failed to respond appropriately to the looming climate crisis. Where are their solutions to the problem?
