This happens regularly with a changing of the guard, so to speak. DOJ attorneys are assigned cases. They can’t withdraw without consent from their supervisor.

"The Court is advised that the undersigned attorney has resigned effective immediately after this filing as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for District of Columbia"

But the guy didn’t just withdraw from the case, he resigned from the DOJ

If he's one of Mueller's prosecutors, then he was only an AUSA because of that role. Once he's off the case, I think he's out anyway.

I think the key here is that the DOJ is overruling a Mueller prosecutor. Something that supposedly hadn't happened when the report was written.
