Anyone else watch the Westminster Kennel Club competition show last night?

Hubby watched it out of sheer political overload. He was so tranquil and happy. I'm of course agitated and posting on DU my latest consternation.

I shudda watched the dog show. What I saw of it was so cute, lovable and adorable (and I know about animal abuse stories arising out of these competitions) it was a relief.

My guess is that some reforms have come about with these competitions.

Maybe I am misinformed?

How many poodles have you seen with a ball haircut. They were bred as hunting dogs not cotton balls.

He ran around the ring with his ribbon in his mouth. He was, indeed, a very good boy.

These kennel club competitions are vastly better to watch than watching rump mouth off about something, I agree w/ your hubby...

the Pembroke Welsh Corgi out, which makes me happy for 3 mins, but she gets nothing.
I hug on my corgi dog, and tell her she’s the most beautiful girl and would have won everything if she was there.

However, the standard poodle did have it all going on. Good call.

I guess he barked at the judge. I admire his rebellious spirit.

and I'm a life-long cat person.

But I can admire other people's dogs, and those dogs certainly are admirable. (Unlike certain presidents* we will not name.)

Alisyn Camerota was doing the usual "feel good" story about who won and John Berman went off on how elite the Westminster Kennel Club show is because they won't let mutts participate. He also dissed the silly poodle cuts and how Golden Retrievers never win.

I was laughing so I missed some of what he said. He missed the point that this is a registered dog show, so of course mutts aren't in it - though I agree that mutts and Golden Retrievers deserve more recognition.

Camerota was laughing, too, but trying to support the idea of the show.

While I wish I'd seen Morning Joe's meltdown (I just can't handle most of his guests and panel first thing in the morning), Berman's rant was pretty good and on a more relaxing subject.
