Yale expert on fascism calls for mass protests: "Time is running out"

Americans are running out of time to stop President Donald Trump's authoritarian slide, experts warned.
"There need to be mass protests," a Yale philosophy professor and expert on fascism told Insider. "The Republican Party is betraying democracy, and these are historical times. Someone has got to push back."

"The system is enabling Trump," Jason Stanley, a Yale philosophy professor who wrote "How Fascism Works," told Insider.

"There need to be mass protests," he said. "The Republican Party is betraying democracy, and these are historical times. Someone has got to push back.

"The deeply worrying moment is when you start to become a one-party state," Stanley added. "The Republican Party has shown that it has no interest in multi-party democracy ... They are much more concerned with power, with consolidating power."

Stanley said recent actions by Republicans and Trump were "straight from the literature on authoritarianism."

But how many people are scared of losing jobs feel over obligated feeding family making rent and a million other things to do.. The corporations have in the name of cheap labor stolen our time from us. We need to put trump and th e party of corporate exploitation out of this country. Sometimes you have to take a risks to make life liveable and sometimes it is nessesary to tell the boss to get over it. So you can beat back fascism. Remove the workhorse blinders.I think it's time to risk to fight for the freedoms we collectively let lapse. We need to see past the tunnel vision now.

Remember bush after 9/11 telling people to go out and shop?

The corporations are vulnerable parasites. Just a two days bush came on tv begging us to go shop.

That should show you how weak fascism really is. We all in masse not shop or work, the pigs in the republican party will be powerless in a week. We could have them by the balls and twist those pigs until the squeal to death. We need solidarity.

And please don't tell me to read a book. I want mass protests. I realize it is hard to conceptualize the effect because we are such a large country and the seat of power is in DC. But there must be a way we can pressure others to step up and speak out. So can we set a save democracy mass protest or get together a plan? I think we need multiple measures. Our leaders need to step up to this as well. Why hasn't Bernie or someone else taken the lead to suggest a plan of action? Maybe more than one. We need people with national exposure to focus on this. WTH. I think the candidates have to get behind a day/week of protest and/or a plan to have the greatest effect. We don't need business as usual. Can we call out to the candidates to come together for at least a day of protest? I see the denial about the reality of our situation as a real danger sign. They should be stepping up. They supposedly lead out party.

http://www.rallylist.com/ has protests. But these seem to be local.

I keep thinking of these fat gross stupid guys...Trump, Barr, McConnell...their power is the myth of their invincibility. But they're just fat stupid cowardly guys. If we got out in the streets for protests, strikes...and to articulate our disgust with and non-fear of them, I think it would go a long way. I'm sick of being scared by these idiots. My grandparents didn't flee their homeland--and my other grandparents didn't cross the prairie--to give up their freedom to a bunch of flabby lying stupid criminals. I agree with you, my fellow DUers--where is the organized protest in the streets?

SIX PRINCIPLES OF NONVIOLENCE

PRINCIPLE ONE: Nonviolence is a way of life for courageous people.
It is active nonviolent resistance to evil.
It is aggressive spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

PRINCIPLE TWO: Nonviolence seeks to win friendship and understanding.
The end result of nonviolence is redemption and reconciliation.
The purpose of nonviolence is the creation of the Beloved Community.

PRINCIPLE THREE: Nonviolence seeks to defeat injustice not people.
Nonviolence recognizes that evildoers are also victims and are not evil people.
The nonviolent resister seeks to defeat evil not people.

PRINCIPLE FOUR: Nonviolence holds that suffering can educate and transform.
Nonviolence accepts suffering without retaliation.
Unearned suffering is redemptive and has tremendous educational and transforming possibilities.

PRINCIPLE FIVE: Nonviolence chooses love instead of hate.
Nonviolence resists violence of the spirit as well as the body.
Nonviolent love is spontaneous, unmotivated, unselfish and creative.

PRINCIPLE SIX: Nonviolence believes that the universe is on the side of justice.
The nonviolent resister has deep faith that justice will eventually win.
Nonviolence believes that God is a God of justice

And use every way to hurt him , like stop all buying to stop his claims of his making it great for us , when he's only helping the wealthy, so stop buying anything you can. He can't do anything to stop that, while he will use violence eventually to stop anyone from protesting, then making criminals of the leaders of the protesters . Like putin does it in russia.

Either that, or kiss this democracy goodbye. trump and his dumbfuck followers will keep doing what they're doing, until they're too scared to continue. All you Play By The Rules Democrats need to change your ways, or step to one side. It's a matter of basic survival, now.
