Why Youtube intentionally doesn't fix their broken complaint-system: It makes them money.

What do you need to make a Youtube-account? A gmail email-account. That's it.

What do you need to upload a video to Youtube? Just the account.

And here is where it gets fishy...

What do you need if you want to upload a thumbnail for your video? All of a sudden Youtube/Google wants your phone-number. How come Youtube/Google doesn't need your phone-number for uploading a video-file but needs it for uploading an image-file????

A big problem of Youtube is their broken complaint-system. You loose your channel if you get three copyright-strikes. The video gets taken down by Youtube automatically if someone issues such a copyright-claim. Youtube doesn't even check whether there actually is a copyright-violation unless you appeal!!!! So, naturally, filing false copyright-strikes is nowadays the go-to weapon for sabotaging other people's Youtube-channels, because it's easy, convenient and you don't suffer any consequences if you get caught. It's a HUGE nuisance.

For example, if you criticize another person and use any unaltered footage from their video, you can get a copyright-strike EVEN THOUGH copyright-law expressly says that you are allowed to violate copyright for the purposes of satire and criticism.

"Big deal," you are going to say. "Just appeal the fraudulent copyright-strike and the problem is solved!"

Well, here's the fishy part. In order to issue an appeal against a copyright-claim, in order to save you from an abuse of Youtube's complaint-system that shouldn't have happened in the first place, Youtube/Google wants your full name, your adress and your phone-number.

What do my full name, my adress and my phone-number have to do with the question whether one video violates the copyright of another video?

Youtube/Google intentionally allows people to abuse their complaint-system, because then Youtube/Google can blackmail the victim into giving them personal information. And information is money.
