President Trump said his former chief of staff John Kelly needs to keep his mouth shut after he criticized the president during a public event Wednesday night.
When I terminated John Kelly, which I couldnt do fast enough, he knew full well that he was way over his head, wrote Trump in a pair of tweets Thursday morning. Being Chief of Staff just wasnt for him. He came in with a bang, went out with a whimper, but like so many Xs, he misses the action & just cant keep his mouth shut, which he actually has a military and legal obligation to do.
Kelly criticized the president during a Q&A session at Drew University in New Jersey. Kelly stated that Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who was dismissed last week from the National Security Council on Trumps orders, was simply doing his duty when he reported on the presidents phone call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that was the basis of the impeachment inquiry.
He did exactly what we teach them to do from cradle to grave, Kelly said of Vindman.
Kelly, a former four-star general whose son was killed in action in Afghanistan, was Trumps original appointee as secretary of homeland security. After Reince Priebus was fired as White House chief of staff in the summer of 2017, Kelly replaced him and served until January 2019, when Trump fired him after multiple stories of friction within the White House, including an April 2018 NBC News report that Kelly had called Trump an idiot multiple times.

(6,480 posts)When I left the Army, I had a ten-year travel ban. I never considered that I should be able to freely talk about my job. So, I am wondering what kind of paperwork would prevent him from saying stuff about what went on when he was chief of staff? Some kind of NDA?
What did he say, anyway, that addressed secrets? He defended Vindman. See, Trump thinks that he can meanmouth the Military and generate loyalty. Instead, there is probably a secret list of those who want to be on the detail that arrests Trump--and Barr...

(8,052 posts)him the proper deference. But separated or retired military can certainly speak out about their government, as long as there is nothing classified or legally-prohibited involved. Trump isn't his commander in chief, unless Kelly gets recalled into service.

(1,648 posts)Start yelling about everything tRUMP:
1) Has been doing.
2) Crimes he committed including being a traitor.
3) Dirty tricks he has employed on all republican Reps and Senators, Conservative Judges, and against his own donors especially Russia.
4) Anything else that would piss off the entire country.
And by all means, start turning over documents, notes, recordings, etc. etc. to save the country before it is too late... Stop playing chicken on this one, because you have millions of people in the car with you.
Those who are in the White House and have taken an oath to protect the Constitution and/or the American People... By all means put the Orange Anus in a straight jacket, drag his ass over to the Senate, and tell Moscow Mitch to do something now or he is next.
