"SNIP.....

Daniel Goldman, the veteran prosecutor who questioned witnesses in the House Intelligence Committee’s public impeachment hearings in November told Preet Bharara on his podcast that the committee is likely to subpoena former national security adviser John Bolton.

Said Goldman: “I suspect that there will be some resolution to that over the next couple of weeks.”

2. Goldman did not imply that a subpoena would actually be issued soon

just that House would resolve the issue soon as to whether or not a subpoena would be worthwhile.

Schiff has downplayed the likelihood even though Nadler has indicated a possibility.

6. I think Bolton worked out a deal with McConnell

Remember, he met with McConnell right before he said that he'd appear before the senate if he were subpoenaed. I think he said that knowing that McConnell would never subpoena him.

8. That's my point, which I didn't make very well.

Bolton never intended on speaking to any Congressional or Senate committee. He just put that out there to help sell his book. He got McConnell to go along with his scheme.

I have no proof of this, but it's a good guess, and I'm happy to make up rumors.

He made a point of saying he would respond to a subpoena by the Senate. His people.

But, I'd subpoena him anyway, and have it on record that he was subpoenaed, even if he refuses to show up. Maybe he can be held in contempt of Congress.

But, my guess is he wants his book out there, so people will buy it because whatever is in it is supposed to be juicy. So, they will probably wait until after March ?th to send a subpoena, thus showing good faith. But, they could do it behind closed doors, couldn't they?

Plus, whatever is in the book he would have to testify to, otherwise it would get around that he has a credibility problem. So, I'd wait until after the book is out, then get him.
