Mandatory vasectomy at 50 or after 3 kids? Alabama bill proposes it

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — An Alabama lawmaker has introduced a bill requiring men to get a vasectomy when they turn 50. The sponsor says it's a response to a bill that passed the legislature last year that included a near-total ban on abortion.

Rep. Rolanda Hollis, a Democrat, sponsored House Bill 238, which would create a law requiring men to get the procedure "within a month of their 50th birthday or the birth of his third biological child, whichever comes first."

The man would also have to pay for the vasectomy at his own expense.

The bill notes there is no existing law that places restrictions on a man's reproductive rights. Hollis said if a woman is to be held responsible for her reproductive decisions, so should a man.

Unless they escape to a state that has legal unfettered abortion.

Even if we're not a rich asshole?

I actually love these "nuisance" legislative proposals by women's rights advocates. They do at least provoke some thought about issues in a different perspective.

BTW, I'm for expanded women's rights, especially to medical care, including abortion on demand.

In the end, they're all about human rights.

and these "nuisance" legislative proposals at least promote some thought and discussion about the importance of women's rights.

Give em a little taste of their own medicine! Lol! Should be a lot younger than 50. I’m thinking 30 to 40 and that’s being generous. After all women and girls have to endure the prying into their personal lives almost as soon as they begin having visits from ol Aunt Flo. No reason that the menfolk should be spared! Now-if only this was real serious legislation... Sigh.

Older Alabama republican men will realize that a vasectomy means no possible pregnancies. Sounds like a win/win. Those condoms are SOOOOO uncomfortable.

Now all they have to worry about is the STDs. No biggie. Set the Rx right next to the viagra. A price worth paying.
