Thirties Child

I'm watching The Tudors, and think 45 took a page from Henry VIII's playbook.

I see so many similarities -- the divine right of kings and Article II giving 45 unlimited powers (he thinks); a subserviant parliament and the Republican Senate; Cardinal Wolsey and Barr & Pompeo. This may be hyperbole, but I'm glad that boiling dissenters alive, burning them at stake, and decapitation are now illegal.

The obese part. I have read every book I could find on that period of History over the years.
Never wanted to live that time period, though.

I've spent most of my life absorbing historical biographies of English royalty, particularly the Tudors, so I barely made it through one episode.

Henry VIII really wasn't all that different from most monarchs, except for his overwhelming obsession with siring a 'legitimate' son to be his heir. How perfect was it that one of, if not the most revered English monarch turned out to be his second daughter, Elizabeth.

I'll admit trump*'s egomania is pretty much on par with Henry's but Henry's goal was the stability and protection of his country while trump*'s is the expansion of his wealth at the EXPENSE of his country.

IMHO, of course.

Henry VIII beheaded my 13th Great Grandfather Henry in 1546 and took his property.

I guess that means my family has been here before.

Henry II is another popular one.

But we always remember Charles I.

If he got potted, sometimes he'd wail on the funnel. It sounded like Miles Davis on acid with a kazoo.
