This week I read no less than 20 posts about the despair of Trump being re-elected is having on their lives. Can't make plans. We could lose our democracy and be imprisoned in a fascist nation.
I get it. I have similar dread.
But I am doing something while I can: I joined a group that meets once a week, at 5:00 for 2-3 hours. Some are still workings; some are retired. Equal number of men and women. We all agree on one thing: Trump has to go after January 20, 2021.
We call our gatherings Writing, Wine, and Resistance. We get together at one member's house and bring wine, cheese, crackers, olives, whatever. We write postcards to Democrats all over the country, to advise them to check their voting status, to vote by mail if possible, to vote (period). Last night, we also wrote letters of support to Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman as well. We write to Democrats in the House, the Senate, sometimes to those in our State offices, to thank them for their votes.
We have mailing lists which make it easier to organize the mailings. Later this year, we will go in groups to Pennsylvania (the middle part) to canvass on behalf of whomever the democratic nominee will be.
NOBODY has lost interest. If anything, the number of Resisters has increased so much, it's been necessary to open the kitchen and living room for them. We are not Utopians. We are realists who know that time is of the essence to garner as much of the country to our mission: to have more than 51% of the country to vote Trump out of office. We don't know if we will be successful, but we're going to try our damnedest.
If you want to stop the feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, and/or dread, I encourage you to try this idea out where you live. You leave feeling like you've done SOMETHING and will be around others who will keep you from feeling isolated.
Peace,

(3,110 posts)...to write your representatives in the House, Senate, your State and the office of the President. You can even choose to have letters posted to Twitter. It works well, and is easy to fit in a busy schedule. Time to make some NOISE!!
