(1,096 posts)While I understand the intended joke, this is exactly the type of symbolism which we have called out the extreme right for.

(2,391 posts)"GOP Lies" is not the same as the GOP. Is it a GOP person that was 'shot?' No, it's the representation of their lies. Or do you think there's really a donkey in that car with its thumb up? Please, do, show me a photo of a real donkey with a thumb, let alone one in a car.
Not an issue.

(1,096 posts)Lighten up? I thought I complained quite lightly!
The symbolism is exactly what is wrong with this cartoon, there is nothing wrong with the worded message, I get the joke and find it spot on. I have a problem with putting out images of a Democrat holding a smoking gun with his target , the GOP, just having been shot. It reminds me of Sarah Palin's cross-hairs image used before Gabby Giffords was shot. Any image which suggests gun violence is simply irresponsible in the heated debate that is going on. Images like this can cause us to look extreme and hateful, they suggest to unstable people that violence is a justifiable behavior.
We see the extremists on the right do things like this constantly, let's not be like them!

(8,209 posts)how can you compare a picture of cross hairs on Gabby Giiffords to this.
The elephant is a "symbol" for the Republican party. Written on it is lies.
So Clinton shooting down republican lies is the meaning. Perhaps you missed his DNC speech.
Sorry to offend you.

(1,096 posts)Are you just ignoring my point on purpose? I am amazed at a picture of John Lennon justifying this?
Once again I don't have a problem with the joke text! I have a problem with the image of a democrat holding a smoking gun which has obviously just shot dead a GOP elephant. The image suggests violence. The words don't suggest violence but the symbolism does.
Could I make it any clearer for you!
Could you please stop with the faux apology and the suggestion that because I disagree with you I must not have watched the DNC speech!
If I saw this cartoon format reversed with a Republican shooting a donkey, I would be outraged and I would bring it to the immediate attention of the media, as I'm sure you would too. I won't justify it and you shouldn't either, just because you agree with the side holding the gun!

It could have been a piece of paper being shredded with Bill still holding the paper.
I think it's best to stay away from the gun imagery.

(7,887 posts)Lots and lots of DEMs would never even own a gun. We believe in responsible behavior with guns.
Clinton did not use any gun only words to expose the lies. It's NOT about the gun. You can't really kill lies with a gun, all you do is make a martyr.
