Trump voting couple find out husband is undocumented

https://www.thisamericanlife.org/694/get-back-to-where-you-once-belonged

Act II
Nowhere Man
ByJeremy Raff
Raul felt like he had found his spot in the world: a job he was good at, a group of people he liked and admired. And then he got kicked out. Kicked out in this way he didn’t even know was possible. Reporter Jeremy Raff explains. (28 minutes)

===========================

Summary of the 28 minute audio: Raul and his wife work as Border and Custom agents in Texas. Raul's birth certificate says he was born in brownsville Texas. He thought he was an American citizen his entire life. When he applied for a green card for his brother, the govt did a deeper look and found a Mexican birth certificate. The parents had the phony birth certificate created to give him a better life.

Now Raul is living undocumented in Texas, not venturing out from his home because of border check points everywhere. at one point in the story, the teary voiced wife mentions thinking "lets ask Trump for help, we voted for him". No... she never mentions the irony. I wish the host would have followed up on that "we voted Trump" comment.

Raul's undocumented status has devastated their lives. Despite a lifetime in america that includes military service, Raul's green card application was denied. Raul's son from prior marriage is no undocumented as his green card was based on his fathers. Raul is unemployed and his border patrol buddies keep their distance.

But nobody deserves that, even if they brought it on themselves.

By the way, he and his wife say the "voted for him". If this guy voted, he committed voter fraud, since he isn't an American/Texas citizen.

Ironic, huh?

But, it is horribly sad.

trump and the GOP already cut health care taking millions off of their plans and cut Social Security already once with the tax scam bill, and want to lower the wealthy tax rate more now, and cut Medicaid , Medicare , and Social Security more, like trump and the GOP are doing to the ACA plan. They are completely in the dark that trump and the GOP want no health care plans, and want to destroy Social Security . The Democrats should run ads showing how trump and the GOP are going to cut all social programs , and Social Security , again, so they realize they're voting to hurt themselves supporting them. Many republican voters are misinformed intentionally on these issues , and are conned into believing the opposite , again how they operate with lying , and promoting propaganda , like trump and the GOP promoted putins propaganda for him on Ukraine.

He voted for Trump. Instead of the leniency and understanding that might well have been shown by a government led by Hillary Clinton, he now suffers from the cynical harshness that reflects the Trump administration and its directives.

If he STILL is incapable of realizing the difference, of realizing that the tragedy that is befalling him is in part because of how he voted, then he needs to start to plan for his thoroughly unjust expulsion from the only home he has ever known. If there were ANY justice whatsoever, this man would be forgiven whatever immigration transgressions he "committed," because he was completely unaware that he had committed them.

Instead, he voted for an administration that delights in being cruel to people that have no defense against cruelty. Now that he is a victim of that cruelty, he STILL can't quite bring himself to believe that what happened to him is unfair. Unfortunate, yes, but unfair? It's the law, and he swore to uphold the law. Didn't he?

Only when he starts to understand that HE is a victim, and not a perpetrator (however unknowing), THEN he will understand the error of supporting people like Trump and Cruz, who couldn't care less about what happens to people like him. If he knows this and STILL gives them a pass, then he needs to start packing, because it means he ultimately views his pending expulsion as just and correct.

Simple logic went out the window. How could otherwise rational people think "this has nothing to do with me?" when it ALREADY had had something to do with them?

We WANT to feel sympathy, but DAMN they make it hard!

and they failed. They knew that the husband had a brother who was undocumented yet they voted for Trump and they worked as Border and Custom agents.
Even with the brother's situation, they could not summon up compassion for immigrants.
Now that husband's undocumented situation is uncovered, the husband is put in the same position as those who were vilified by Trump, someone they supported.
Sounds like Karma, without even the need for reincarnation.
Do they learn a lesson in compassion now?

Now you don't talk so loud. Now you don't seem so proud ...

How does it feel? How does it feel to be without a home?
Like a complete unknown? ...

You say you never compromise with the mystery tramp
But now you realize he's not selling any alibis
as you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
and say, “Do you want to make a deal?" ...
