Trump whines after Obama reminds people he created more jobs

https://americanindependent.com/donald-trump-economy-barack-obama-job-growth-recovery-act-2020-election/

Trump keeps trying to take credit for economic gains that began under his predecessor.

The Trump campaign on Monday tried to take credit for economic gains initiated under President Barack Obama, after the latter shared a post on social media marking the anniversary of a 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Earlier in the day, Obama had marked the 11-year anniversary of the Recovery Act becoming law. "Eleven years ago today, near the bottom of the worst recession in generations," he tweeted, "I signed the Recovery Act, paving the way for more than a decade of economic growth and the longest streak of job creation in American history."

Trump's reelection campaign took exception to Obama's tweet in a statement to Fox News.

"President Trump reversed every single failed Obama-era economic policy, and with it, reversed the floundering Obama/Biden economy," wrote Kayleigh McEnany, Trump's national campaign press secretary.

In reality, the recovery that Trump inherited when he took office in early 2017 began in large part under Obama.

President Trump has a new outlook on the legitimacy of the government's monthly jobs reports, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said on Friday.

During his presidential campaign, Trump often slammed the government's labor and employments statistics, calling monthly jobs reports "phony" and the unemployment rate "fiction." He also frequently claimed that the unemployment rate was much higher than reported.

"The unemployment rate is probably 20 percent, but I will tell you, you have some great economists that will tell you it's at 30, 32," he said in September 2015. "And the highest I've heard so far is 42 percent."

Asked about Trump's past dismissal of Bureau of Labor Statistics jobs numbers in the past in light of Friday's strong economic report, Spicer quoted the president:

"I talked to the president prior to this, and he said to quote him very clearly: 'They may have been phony in the past, but it's very real now.'"

Spicer and reporters present laughed, though it wasn't immediately clear whether Trump was joking.[link:https://thehill.com/policy/finance/323425-spicer-quoting-trump-jobs-reports-may-have-been-phony-in-the-past-but-theyre|
