Development. The brain is for personal survival, but that includes ego; the brain is selfish. Soul, all coming from a source that is all good, recognizes brotherhood. Soul produces those qualities we consider good/spiritual/humanitarian.

If a person hasn't developed compassion, consideration, self sacrifice, honesty, empathy in previous incarnations (a provable process), then in the here and now, that person's soul will not have a great influence on that person's mind. Brain and its material concerns will prevail.

This is at the heart of Democrats v. Republicans. Our Minds differ in content. GOP mind content is brain -based, prone to fears, conspiracies, self interest. Democrats have minds that can be influenced by soul, so we reach out for the benefit of others.

But not all GOP minds are lost causes. Their voting may be influenced by family tradition, friends, towns, and they haven't really bothered to think about their spiritual politics. When Bernie gave a town hall to a Fox audience, they loved his ideas. They've probably been reprogrammed since then.

How often do anti-intellectual authoritarians mate with those outside their sub-species?

Which genetic and cultural characteristics are dominant?

In this modern high-tech age having lots of guys on the ground with guns who will blindly follow a tyrant may not be a successful evolutionary strategy.

The most successful societies place a high value on education, have near universal literacy and numeracy, a predictable legal system, and some measure of justice, free speech, equal rights, and tolerance of non-conformists.

The U.S.A. isn't entirely successful in this respect. A strong streak of anti-intellectualism, sexism, and racism runs throughout our society.

It seems there's a lot of "brain drain" afflicting Republican strongholds. If the interesting kids can't feel at home in these Republican lands, if they can't change the social environment, they leave.

I think that's the greatest fear of the Republican Party, that they are going extinct. In some places it already has.
