I suspect they want him to get the full recommended sentence just so it gets Barr off the hook for interfering with it to begin with. They also know he'll be pardoned moments after sentencing.
Mark my words.

(31,059 posts)They know Stone will be pardoned, so they want her to give 9 yrs just so it looks like Barr's interference wasn't a factor.

(49,112 posts)Curious if it's all an act or if these prosecutors have integrity. I'm hoping for integrity. But know very well Trump and Barr will do the most heinous corrupt things in their own self-interest.

(6,280 posts)I think Trump wears out people quickly. Barr might have reached his limit. My guess is that many of the pardons issued probably have hurt their relationship.
Barr might have said go forward with the Stone prison sentence. Let dumb fuck continue to show his true colors with a pardon.

(2,274 posts)... I have to agree with you. My faith in the Justice Department is waning by the day I'm afraid. I WANT to believe they are recommending enhancements by the weight of the evidence and the Law but am afraid its just a show. There's no way our chump in chief will let this or any other sentence stand.

Judge: Stone "lied and sought to impede production of information not to some secret anti-Trump cabal but to Congress," when both houses were controlled by REPUBLICANS.

Judge is speaking very very fast. She is STILL going through extensive record that led to Stone's conviction on ALL counts before a jury.

She says Stone "flat out lied" about his contacts with Corsi and Credico. There were hundreds of emails to and from Credico alone, she notes.

BUT: ABJ says, she is concerned that 7-9 years is greater than necessary. And would have thought so regardless of the sentencing memo chaos.

ABJ calls Trumps comments on the case entirely inappropriate, she will not be influenced by them. But she will not hold them against Stone either.
Also says she will not be influenced by pressure from the left from those who want a stiffer sentence.

Stone will not be going to prison today. The judge deferred the start of his sentence until she rules on defense efforts to toss trial. If their objections have to do with jurors, it likely won't fly. She spoke highly of jurors service.

That works out to 3 years and four months in prison. He also sentenced to two years of supervised release upon leaving prison.

BREAKING --> Roger Stone, political operative and longtime confidant of President Trump, is sentenced to 40 months in prison by a federal judge who was particularly harsh about his lies to Congress, witness tampering, obstruction.
