State legislatures are not necessarily a good measure because of state level gerrymandering. Statewide elections might give a better impression.

However, that being said, the states with Democratic governors include states that Trump won easily in 2016: Kentucky, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana. And states with Republican governors include states that Trump lost by a wide margin in 2016: Vermont, Maryland, and Massachusetts
