Transit Train Murderer Convicted in Portland

In May of 2017, an unstable man threatened and verbally abused two teen-aged girls (one wearing a hijab) on a Portland MAX light rail train. Three men came to their defense as the the perpetrator launched racial and ethnic rants toward the young women.

Jeremy Christian pulled a knife, killing two of the men and critically injuring the third. Taliesin Namkai-Meche, 23, and Ricky Best, 53, were killed and Micah Fletcher, then 21, was also stabbed in the neck on May 26, 2017.

Jeremy Christian was convicted and will likely spend the rest of his life in prison. After the verdict, flowers began arriving at the Hollywood train platform where the murders occurred.

Their bravery and defense of the defenseless represent what I wish America, a land of immigrants, really was after all the parades and fireworks are over.

They are American heroes in every sense of the word.
