A free tool to learn how to prevent and defeat a coup with nonviolent methods by Gene Sharp

Last edited Sun Feb 23, 2020, 05:24 PM - Edit history (2)

Are you worried about what will happen if Trump won't leave office?

This free pdf by Gene Sharp details measures that civilians, civil society, and governments can take to prevent and block coups d'état and executive usurpations. It also contains specific legislative steps and other measures that governments and non-governmental institutions can follow to prepare for anti-coup resistance.

Read The anti-coup by Gene Sharp
This is the link to download the booklet for free (thank you Albert Einstein Institution)

Or for 5 bucks buy it
You’ll be glad.

He was a prof at the Peace Studies department at University of Hawai’i and published tremendous work on nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience. Nonviolence works when your opponent has more power. Sound familiar?

Albert Einstein institution in New York City where he worked for a long time also has his publications available for download for free but if you have a couple bucks they can make good use of it.

Gene Sharp was a great man. He’s gone but his work lives on and gives us a map to how to manage if the worst unfolds.

If we wait till then it’s too late.

Nonviolence has been an effective tool around the world to deal with tyrants.

Think I'll stay with Mark Twain and content myself, as the Nazarene phrased it, with the knowledge that "sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

than happy to escort his worthless ass out of the White House. He has angered so many people in very high places, I can't imagine a coup working. He needs support for that.

See Bush v. Gore

If the Electors votes go in the box, the new President will come out the other end. Any of the three firewall states could be close enough to contest the election and through it into however the state court will decide, then the US Supreme Court will massage any decision in the favor of the GOP.

The only reason that didn't pull the lever on this plan in Ohio in 2012 was because Obama had won 270 votes by a convincing margin in those other close states. Look at Karl Rove's melt down - they were ready to go.

He was genuinely expecting Ohio to flip his way -- but there was just too much voter turnout.

Try this thought: If defeated, Trump will congratulate the winner, thank his staff for their loyalty and simply leave office, like all other presidents have done before him.

Pause for a moment— does the the above sentence ring true? Does it describe a scenario that’s in keeping with what we have witnessed for the past
3-plus years?

Trump does *nothing* quietly, or fairly, or legitimately. Nor does he surrender any ideological ground. It would be very consistent with his demonstrated behavior to contest the results of an election, especially if all the Republican machinations don’t pan out.

I put *nothing* past this insane, bitter criminal. Nothing. It would be wise to have a plan in place that deals with Trump either not recognizing the results of an election he does not win, or not surrendering the office per the law. Because, as has been witnessed repeatedly, the law means nothing to Trump or his circle.
