Israel:
Israel to ban entry to foreigners coming from South Korea, Japan
Non-Israelis who visited the 2 Asian countries in past 14 days will be turned away due to virus fears; Israelis returning from Italy, Australia, Taiwan urged to check for symptoms
Starting Monday, Israel will ban all foreign nationals who have been to South Korea and Japan in the past 14 days from entering the country, over concerns they could spread the COVID-19 coronavirus, the Health Ministry said Sunday.
Interior Minister Aryeh Deri was set to sign an order to that effect later in the day.
Israel is already denying entry to visitors from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand and Singapore, and is apparently the only country to have taken such drastic steps so far to contain the virus.

Aljazeera:
Neighbours close borders with Iran as virus concerns rise
Iran has reported eight deaths and 43 infections from the new coronavirus, prompting neighbouring states to cut travel links with Tehran amid concerns authorities failed to respond fast enough to the rapidly-spreading epidemic.
Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Armenia closed their land borders with Iran on Sunday as officials in Tehran reported three new deaths and 15 new cases in one day.
Since the infection, officially known as COVID-19, was first detected in the Iranian city of Qom on Wednesday, there has been a sharp increase in cases in the country while Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said people travelling from Iran had tested positive for the pathogen upon entering their territories.
The death toll in Iran is the highest number reported outside China, the epicentre of the outbreak, where the virus has claimed more than 2,400 lives and infected over 77,000 people.

Fines threatened and police called in to enforce coronavirus quarantine across northern Italy
The Italian government has put in place drastic new measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, with travelling to or from several cities in the countys north now effectively banned without a permit.
Conte however said he would not take the step of suspending the Schengen agreement, saying such a move would be disproportionate.
The Schengen agreement removes border controls between participating European states.
The number of people in Italy infected with the coronavirus is now more than 130.

I agree. I also find Iran's denial of the COVID-19 contagion disturbing as well.

(10,269 posts)1. That one about the Canadian airline passenger is kind of scary
Everyone on that flight could be at risk. Flying would seem to be a major risk factor. The air is recirculated throughout the flight.

A lot of the new cases were from Qom, a Shia religious significant sight which attracts pilgrimages.
